W. Scott Copp
7/9/52-10/7/21
Fairport, NY
Scott passed away peacefully, surrounded in love by his family, on Thursday, October 7, 2021. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Richard & Mary June Copp, and brother, Robert Copp. He was the 4th son , born and raised in Fairport, NY. He is survived by his son, David (Jennifer) Copp, his daughter, Molly Robinson, and was Papa to his three granddaughters, whom he adored. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Maryann) Copp, John Copp, and sister-in-law Flo Mecca-Copp, former wife Laurie (Seaman) Copp, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and the sunshine in his life, Sharon Kincaid.
Scott grew up in Fairport and was a proud Raider. While in the ninth grade, Scott was a founding member of the Red and White Fraternity, which recently held its 50th reunion.
After graduating from Fairport, Scott went on to excel in many things. He worked for O’Brien Builders, the Strong Museum, and Block Industries, just to name a few. He served as the Director of Development for the Town of Perinton for 23 years. If you needed to know anything about building or fire codes, Scott was the one you would call. He was a NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official and served in a variety of roles on many organizational boards both across the country and internationally as well. He served as the president of the Fingerlakes Building Officials Association (FBOA) for three terms. There was no one with more knowledge in these areas than Scott, but he was ever humble about it. For the last few years he was working at T.Y.Lin International as a Technical Director of the Code Compliance Group.
Scott was a member of the Fairport Fire Department for 38 years. One of his favorite joys in life was playing the role of the Fairport Fire Department Santa for many years. His love and compassion was there for all to see as he invited the young and the old to embrace the holiday spirit.
Scott loved to travel, learn new things, and figure out how things work. He loved digging into family history, playing a good game of cards, and drinking a cold craft beer.
He was always willing to help any family member, friend, or neighbor with his skills or advice. A lifelong learner, he was comfortable in the kitchen where he enjoyed preparing food with love for his family. He would prefer to be barefoot in the garden wearing his favorite flannel shirt than anywhere else, whether growing pumpkins, flowers, or vegetables, with his furry friends by his side.
The twinkle in Scott’s eye would tell you he was always ready for the next adventure – whether that be helping solve a problem, telling a good story, being out in nature while on his beloved Goldwing motorcycle or hiking in the woods.
Scott – here’s to your next adventure. We will miss you, and try to live your daily motto “make sure to learn something every day” in your honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairport Fire Department or the Humane Society @ Lollypop Farm.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 27th @ 11am at the First Baptist Church of Fairport, followed by a celebration of life at the Fairport Fire Hall.

So sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. My nickname for him was “Pinch”, a private joke between us from high school!!
I will miss you my friend,!
I’ve known Scott and the Copp family since I was 8 years. No matter where in the world I’ve been I have always been connected with them. Rest easy my friend. Remember the Kingdom of Heaven is there waiting for us. All of us.
Copp Family, so very sorry for your loss. His smile was contagious, always willing to help out with what ever was needed.
“Grief is the price we pay for love.”
When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them but to live with the love they left us.
I am so very sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. He is one of the Fairport Red Raiders and he was very proud of that. You will be missed.
Scott was a GREAT FRIEND in school and a loyal Red and White fraternity brother.
I will keep his memory fresh in my mind.
My sincerest condolences to you David and Molly. Your dad was such a great guy and ever faithful to “showing up” for his family, near and far! He always went out of his way to be supportive and sincere in some of the worst and best times in my life, especially when my mom passed. He was always willing to play ‘tour guide’ and drive my dad around to all the old family spots in NH and NY and reminisce. He had great jokes and could boy, could he spin a good yarn! He doted on you both as he did your grandparents, and always got down on the floor to play with my kids when they were little. Even when he didn’t have time, he made time. Nothing came before his family in his book and he was a very humble guy for all of his accomplishments. I am really going to miss seeing his cheery face next time I’m in NY and his random texts just checking in on us. So, here’s to you Scott, for a life well lived and one of the very best cousins a girl could have. Much love!
Lifetime friends from the neighborhood-thought we’d be adding more adventures to our list, R.I.P. Scottie.
I was so sorry to learn of Scott’s passing. He was one of the best. When I joined the Fairport Fire Department, Scott was one of the first to make me feel welcome and help train and guide me. I remember, when he worked downtown, carpooling with him, his son David, and Teddy in the morning as he dropped everybody off to start their day. He and his former wife Laurie were a wonderful part of my life. I left the Rochester area decades ago but I’ve always thought of Scott fondly and have shared stories about him with people who will now, sadly, never get to meet him. Rest in peace my friend. You will not be forgotten.
I am so very sad to find out Scott has left this earthly world. I have fond memories of Scott as my brother’s friend and fraternity brother and also as my friend. He always had a warm smile and great hugs. Such a happy guy. Rest In Peace Scott.

My deepest sympathy to Scott and his family. Scott and I grew up together as part of the Ayrault Road gang in the neighborhood. Many happy memories as kids in the same kindergarten class, waiting for the school bus, church youth group, just playing in the neighborhood. He was in my thoughts through the years after I married and moved away with my Air Force husband. Now living in Rome, NY, so close yet so far away, I regret we did not connect. I will always remember the kindness of his parents when my Mom passed away and they came from Fairport to Rome to offer condolences from them and on behalf of Scott. Perhaps we will meet on the other side. The world has lost a wonderful man. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Scott was definitely one of the good ones. My deepest sympathy to his family.
