Rochester NY – Rosemarie Costa passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2020 with her daughter Kate and son in law Tim by her side. Born Rosemarie Wanser, she is predeceased by her husband Philip J. Costa, her parents and 3 brothers. Rosemarie leaves behind her 6 beloved children, Dr. Elizabeth Trinidad (Micheal Taroli ), Kevin (Marcia) Marron, Andrew Marron (Glenda Denton), Sean (Donna) Marron, Patrick (Dawn) Marron, Kate (Tim) Schreiber; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Rosemarie was born in Chelsea Massachusetts and grew up Wiscassett Maine. She loved her time in Maine, especially the library. By the age 13, she had read every book in the children’s library and needed her parents permission to begin reading from the adult library. Rosemarie moved to Amityville on Long Island as a junior in high school. After graduation she attended St. Catherine’s Nursing school in Brooklyn NY. While she worked in hospitals in Texas and Washington DC, Brunswick hospital in Amityville was her home for more than 30 years. She was proud of her time there, serving as a nurse manager.
Rosemarie was a woman of faith and served as a eucharistic minister for St. Martin of Tours Church and brought communion to the sick.
Rosemarie loved few things more than reading, chocolate and Jeopardy. She seldom met a dessert she didn’t like (especially chocolate ones) and was known to enjoy the occasional nice scotch. She enjoyed playing canasta and few could beat her at scrabble. Rosemarie was very active in the Snug Harbor community before COVID hit, participating in several clubs including her favorite, the book club as well as the Amityville Women’s club.
Rosemarie enjoyed visiting “the cottage” at Cayuga Lake and could sit in the rockers on the porch and read for hours. While she wasn’t able to do much boating, she enjoyed drives along the lake and visiting the Amish vegetable stands (for the desserts naturally). In recent years, she became a fan of Syracuse basketball and Sunday football (she loved Patrick Mahomes). She often turned games off before the end because tight games were “just too stressful to watch.”
Perhaps her favorite thing in life was gathering with her family and many friends. She loved the large Marron gatherings and the chaos that ensued. She looked forward to phone calls from her out of state children and visits from the local boys. She loved celebrating Christmas with her daughter in snowy Rochester.
Her family is grateful for the loving care she received in the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial. They made her last few days comfortable, painless and peaceful.
Because Covid has made gathering difficult, a celebration of Rosemarie’s life will be postponed until we can all be together. Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital or the American Heart Association.

We loved playing Mah Jongg with her She did not like the game but was a good sport.. My husband, Frank, Rosemarie, and I went to Parkview Nursing Home once a month to bring Communion to the residents. She will be greatly missed.
Your friendship was cherished one. You are so right! Mom would groan about going to mah jongg . It was definitely a love /hate relationship with that game.
My deepest condolences. May God bless her
