From myself and all the members of the class of 77 and all the students that were lucky enough to have Mr. De Laus as a mentor, I offer my deep regrets to
his family and friends. He was a true bird of this world. I quote this from the Andy Griffith show which means, A special person we were blessed to have in our lives. Mike was that kind of person.

Mike was one of the first people to offer advice when I served on the Brighton BOE. He showed me the ropes at my first New York School Boards Convention. A big loss to our community.

What sad news! I served with Mike on the Monroe #1 BOCES Board of Education and the Monroe County School Boards Association for 10 years. Mike was a wonderful friend and colleague who cared deeply about the children we served. May his memory be a blessing and bring comfort in the days and months ahead.

  11. To the DeLaus Family, my sincere condolences.

Mr DeLaus’ humor, no nonsense attitude & ability to understand which methods of logic & persuasion he needed to employ to move each us forward towards adulthood, was a gift for many in John Marshall’s class of 1982.

He joined us at our 40th year reunion this past September… full of life, with that mischievous twinkle in his eye & smile on his face. It was a gift & joy to see him again.

Mr. DeLaus’ influence was felt by many & he’ll be remembered for many years to come. To a life well lived!

So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Although I haven’t seen him in many years, I can’t forget my first years in Rochester as a young physician when Jacky and Mike invited us into their home with such warmth and humor, not to forget Mike’s pasta sauce, probably the best I’ve ever had! I wish Jacky and her lovely family peace and strength in their grieving.

  13. Mr. DeLaus was my favorite at John Marshall! Wonderful man. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Age and infirmity prevent me from attending either of the services for Michael DeLaus; so I take this way of expressing condolences to his family. Mike was a colleague at John Marshall H.S. in the 80s and early 90s and one of a group of Marshall retirees who met for breakfast for several years the second Tuesday of the month. Mike’s energy, liveness and commitment to education made him an outstanding guidance counselor to many Marshall students and distinguished his service to his community. With affection and sympathy.

Mike was a truly wonderful human being. I enjoyed my days in Fairport and all dealings with him as a BOCES board member. Mike was a dedicated supporter of Joining Hearts and Hands. His generosity saved the lives of many of our kids in Kenya. May he be in God’s hands.
