Fred Dowaliby passed away on October 19, 2019 at 77 years of age after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease Dementia.
Fred was pre-deceased by his father, Joseph Dowaliby, mother, Wyona Carbone, and brother James Dowaliby. Survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Bernadette Nitto Skobjak, daughters Stefanie Dowaliby Porter (Brian) and Melisa Dowaliby Donato of Massachusetts, brother George Dowaliby (Anne Cullinan) of Windsor CT., brothers-in- law, William Nitto (Penelope) and Daniel Nitto; grandchildren: Kellen, Tighe, and Branin Porter, and Rocco and Maksim Donato; niece, Sara Hess (Kyle), nephew Matthew Dowaliby (Isabella Vicari).
Fred served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and in Germany. Following his discharge from the army, Fred earned his GED and enrolled in Greenfield (MA) Community College and earned his Associates Degree. (Modafinil Online) Fred then attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, earning B.A. and M.S. degrees, culminating in a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.
Following employment at the National Board of Medical Examiners in Philadelphia, Fred enjoyed a successful career at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. Fred did extensive research and published in the field of deaf education, retiring as an Associate Professor in 2001.
He had a lifelong commitment to fitness through weightlifting, yoga, karate, and Tai chi.
Additionally, he had a passion for building and restoring hot rods and sports cars.
Friends and family may call at Richard H. Keenan funeral home (EGYPT LOCATION) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John of Rochester Church at 8 Wickford Way, Fairport on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. All are invited to the Interment which will follow after the Mass at Ascension Gardens on 1900 Pinnacle Road in Henrietta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s name to the “Palliative Care Unit 4-1200” and sent to Palliative Care, Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642, or to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

Bernadette, I feel so fortunate to have known Fred these past 3 years. We became fast friends and had many many laughs together. He was such a good guy as you and I would always say. I am praying that God continues to give you strength as I know how totally depleted you are. Your care and devotion to Fred was beyond anything I have ever seen. To Fred I say I love you dear friend and will miss you..
