Eggar, Matthew Scott

Matthew Scott Eggar, of Fairport, passed from this life to his eternal home with Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. He passed in the privacy of his own home with his beloved wife, his son, and his two daughters at his side and his pets close by. His life of 43 years was too brief but certainly not lacking in love, fun, excitement and joy.

Born November 7, 1980, in Texas, Matt moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, in the fifth grade.

Valedictorian of the Valley High School Class of 1999, he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and later transferred to The Ohio State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business and where he met the love of his life, Stephanie. Best friends from their first date, Matt and Stephanie built a life filled with joy and cherished memories.

An excellent athlete, he was a champion swimmer and a certified open water diver. He enjoyed golf, and scored an amazing hole-in-one at Oak Hill Country Club’s Championship Course.

Unfailingly honest and hard-working, he and Stephanie built a life admired by all. Matt endured a number of ups and downs in his business endeavors but he was always successful and, more importantly, maintained his unfaltering commitment to his family and his clients.

Matt’s crowning achievement in the business world was the creation of his own company, MTHW. MTHW is an acronym for “Maximize Time Health Wealth”.

More than a slogan or a creed, MTHW was the pledge that Matt and Stephanie followed throughout the two-year struggle with his illness. While they never gave up searching and fighting for a cure, they fully lived the 60 years they should have had together into less than two years. They included their children, Renee, Alex and Gabi, in all their adventures and journeys, so it was most appropriate that the five of them huddled close and experienced Matt’s final moments together as a family. Matt passed on to glory leaving his family to grieve, but he did so with love, pride, dignity and faith that one day they will all be together again.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie Vodenichar Eggar, whom he married Oct. 4, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler, Pa.; his children, Renee (18), Alex (16), and Gabi (15); his mother, Michelle Estep Eggar, of Portsmouth, Ohio; two sisters, Jennifer (Adam) Wolfe, of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Sarah (Dragan) Kosanovic, of Amsterdam, Netherlands; his half-brother, Edward Amadoro, of Philadelphia, Pa.; his in-laws, Linda Corton Vodenichar and Ron Vodenichar, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Butler, Pa.; his sisters-in-law, Sherri (David) Farias, of Leander, Texas, Adrianne (Hunter) Thompson, of Richmond, Va., KayLeigh (Neil) Malpass, of Moseley, Va., and Marla Eggar , of Scranton, Pa.

He is also survived by his godchildren, Kylie Dambach, Payton Malpass, and Isaiah Thompson; and nieces and nephews, Lucy, Isaiah, Micah, Eliza, Jack, Simon, Maria, Harmony, Payton, Monroe, Alexandria, Avery, Katarina, Gavin, Nevaeh, Kyleigh, Maddison, and Andrew.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leroy Eggar, and his brother, Ryan Eggar.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location), 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd., Fairport.

Services will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 1000 Moseley Rd., Fairport.

What a wonderful tribute to Matt. Matt’s legacy as a man of many gifts was and will continue to be his many accomplishments, but only to be outdone by his love of his family and the life that he worked hard to live abundantly. Matt was an amazing son, brother, husband, father and great example of what one can achieve with hard work and resolve to be the best you can be, yet remain humble while trusting in God.
I am so proud of the man Matt grew to be and humbled by the strength he demonstrated in his battle against his disease. I love you Matt, may you have peace and joy forever with our Lord, Uncle Mike

In less than two years that I’ve known Matt, he’s made a definitive impact on how I approach life every day. Even just 3 weeks ago when he shared his update with coworkers, Matt was a warrior like no one I’ve ever known. It is clear that he’s been called away too soon to bring his leadership and compassion to work within Heaven. I will continue to send prayers to his family as I know their loss is immeasurable, but please know that he’s had an incredible lasting impact on many others well beyond what you can imagine.

Matt was more than just a coworker; he was a warm and kind presence, always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, and support those around him. His strength was insurmountable, as evidenced by the way he faced every challenge with courage and determination. Even in the toughest times, Matt’s positivity and resilience shone through, inspiring us all to keep going, no matter what. His dedication, hard work, and unwavering positivity were an inspiration to us all. Matt approached every challenge with grace and determination, and his contributions to our team will be remembered with deep respect and admiration. Matt’s loss leaves a void in our hearts and in our workplace that cannot be filled, but we will carry forward his spirit of kindness, dedication, and camaraderie.

My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Matt’s wife, Stephanie, and his three children, Renee, Alex, and Gabi, and all those whose lives have forever been changed.

  12. It was such an honor for Russ and I to meet Matt in May at the TAG annual conference. We were so impressed with his love for his family and compassion to share life with others. The podcast we hosted with Matt as a guest was a highlight of our year.
The Legacy Advisory Partners Team sends our condolences to your family. May Matt’s legacy live on for decades to come.
    God Bless,

This is really a wonderful tribute. Thank you for sharing with us. Matt was always there for me when my son was going through a bone marrow transplant. I truly enjoyed golfing with him when I was home from the hospital. Matt always listened and didn’t judge when I had to get emotions out. Thank you for that time and care, Matt. Matt was honest, kind, thoughtful and genuine. We will miss you my friend.

When we met with Matt to review our financials in March it was with the knowledge that I was retiring from my job after my own battle with cancer. In our discussions I asked Matt why he wasn’t retiring as well to which he replied that he was continuing to work so that he could live his rich life. He had adventures to have, an RV to travel in, and things that he wanted to do with his family that working would help him achieve. I hope that those adventures these last few months were epic and all that he hoped they would be for those he shared them with. Sending prayers and thoughts to your family.

Hello, Matt: I’m sorry to hear you go, while I was on sabbatical. I just watched your video and parting words on the TAG playback. Thanks for all that you’ve done with me over the past year. I enjoyed getting to know you and wish you rest in peace. We’ll see each other again one day, on the other side. Best wishes and my condolences to your family…
