Terrence Edward Footer, of Palmyra, NY passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021 at age 78.
Terry leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn, his two sons, Tim (Maggie) and Jeff, his brother Richard (Judy), three grandsons, Eoghan, Conlan, Declan, and two nephews, Adam (Kim), Brent (Michelle).
Terry was a very noble and selfless man. From his love for his family, to his service in our military, contributions to his community, and even dedication to youth sports, he touched so many lives in a positive way.
Born on May 8th, 1943 to Edna and Howard, Terry spent his childhood and high school years in East Rochester. He was a graduate of both the University of Rochester and then the Rochester Institute of Technology where he received his MBA. Terry spent his entire professional life of 32 years working for Xerox in various managerial roles.
Terry felt the need to serve our great country early in his career and subsequently joined the Army Reserves. He spent 30 years in the 98th division and retired as a Sergeant Major. The countless friends he made, stories he has forever told, will never be forgotten.
After getting married in 1974, Terry and Marilyn settled in Palmyra NY where they remained until his passing. This is where they raised their two sons. Terry always stayed very active as a father. His imparting upon our family of a respect for nature to auto repair to 6AM Hockey practices, he was there when needed and was a great mentor. These life lessons and sound advice never ended into adulthood and will be forever cherished.
Terry’s friends will remember his life-long passion for baseball. After actively playing through college, he became very involved in Pal-Mac youth baseball serving as a coach, manager, and board member for many years. His positive influence on the program will be felt for years to come. Even today, many years after he stopped serving in these positions, it is near impossible to go anywhere in town without hearing someone yelling “Hey Coach Footer”.
Through hard work Terry was able to retire early and spend the last 20 years enjoying life and traveling with his wife. Countless road trips, vacations to other countries, and a drive to seek opportunities to spend time with family and friends became a way of life for Marilyn and Terry. The memories made on these adventures will live forever with all family members and friends.
Terry leaves behind a legacy that will long endure within his growing family. He will be forever missed by family, friends, and community.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday December 19, 12-2PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport. Sorry for your loss Marilyn, Tim and Jeff and the rest of Footer Family. He will terribly missed. It was a pleasure to have a such a good friend. I will cherish the memories.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Terry was an all around good guy. There were always plenty of laughs when he was around.

It is hard for me to image PM Youth Baseball without thinking of Terry standing along the baselines smiling and coaching, knowing he was getting as much joy as the young players learning the game of baseball. Having coach with Terry for a few years I know the enthusiasm he demonstrated everyday starting well before the players selection tryouts right through the end of the season. I can only image the joy Terry would have gotten from watching his grandchildren play sports and wanting to be on the sidelines coaching. While I will miss his smile and the hearty hello handshake I know Cheryl, Matt, Andy and I won’t forget our good friend Terry. Look out Heaven the sounds of bats driving balls and young people laughing will soon be heard on a regular basis. Rest in Peace will not be connected to Terry instead let’s all yell Play Ball and congratulate our friend Terry for a life well played.

There is not enough words to say how sorry I am for the family’s lost. I considered SM Fotter a good friend. I always tried to sit with him and Bodan and Col. Syder. at our monthly 98th Div. Lunches. My Sympathy to Marilyn, Tim & Jeff….Terry, was a Great friend & mentor when I came to the Rochester area & joined the 98th… We Had Army & baseball that we shared together. We had stay in touch over the years & visited their house when passing thru the area.. I will miss his friendship & many, many shared story’s that we had. You Will Be Missed Old Friend.

So sorry to have missed Terry’s passing. Just read about it in our Military Newsletter. God Bless him and his family. Having worked with Terry in the Army Reserves, I have known of Terry’s significant military contributions and successes. However, I really knew nothing of his “real life”. I am not surprised that he was such a great supporter of his family and his community. He was a fine man and will be fondly remember by his Military colleagues.
I spent many years and hours working with Terry in Logistics in the 98 Div (MUSARC) as deputy G-4 and in later years as G-4. He was a trusted soldier, leader and friend, who had many significant contributions in Army Reserve Logistics on a National Level which were implemented within the Army Logistical Mobilization Data Base. He was dedicated to the Army Reserve and his country.
