Gaige, Marcella I. (Vincent)

E. Rochester – Marcella I. Gaige (Vincent) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2020.  Born in Binghamton NY on February 16, 1935, Marcy lived her life to the fullest by caring for her family through her intense love of cooking and feeding our souls.  And feed our souls did she – a fabulous cook and baker as her mother taught her and as she has passed down the gift to her children.  There is not one family member or friend who wasn’t treated to her famous cinnamon rolls; in particular as gifts at Christmas time.  A graduate of Binghamton North High School in June 1953, married October 31, 1953, Marcy was set on a path in life to care for her family – high school sweetheart Len, their (4) sons and (1) daughter; parents, in-laws, (5) sisters and (1) brother and the abundance of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren to follow.   Marcy lived through the eyes of her children and grandchildren attending every recital, concert, play, sporting event, school event or whatever event, Marcy was there relishing every moment.   Marcy loved bowling, having been in a number of leagues throughout her lifetime where she formed so many great friendships.  Our family camping trips were definitely a highlight!  Among the New York favorites were Sandy Pond and Southwick Beach State Park on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario to Chenango Valley, Buttermilk Falls, Robert Treman, Green Lakes, Watkins Glen and many more NY parks.  Our family trips to Washington DC, Chesapeake Bay, Cape Hatteras, South Dakota, Yellowstone, many trips to Florida and a most memorable trip to Hawaii were experiences that will live with us forever.   Then the time Len & Marcy packed up and traveled across the United States with camper in tow to see the great Colorado Rockies, hot air balloon festival in New Mexico, the Grand Canyon and winding through the southern states enjoying the beautiful country we live in.  The most memorable trip by far for Marcy was to Germany in November 1989 and being a part of the Berlin Wall coming down and the celebration that followed.

More than anything else, Marcy lived her life loving and caring for her family.

Predeceased by her parents, Harrison and Irene Vincent, brother Harrison Vincent Jr. and sister, Barbara L. Jones.  Marcy is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Leonard R. Gaige; children Michael R. (Nora) Gaige of Kirkwood NY, Leonard P. (Esther) Gaige of Snellville GA, Thomas L. (Catherine) Gaige of Chenango Forks NY, Kristina M. (Robert) Dussmann of Fairport NY and Samuel D. (Christine) Gaige of Rochester NY; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.  Sisters Jenna Varano of Binghamton NY, Alice Minoia of Vestal NY, Lettie Ripic of Endicott NY, Ellen (Charles) Perella of Ijamsville MD.  Nicole Gilbert McCormick of Canandaigua NY whom Marcy & Len love as a daughter.  Many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends that have enriched her life throughout the years.

  1. A beautiful tribute to my big Sister. Although life took us on very different paths and we lived miles apart we remained close and shared phone calls once or twice a week unti her unexpected death. So sadly missed.

Such a heartfelt message about our beautiful Marcy. We will miss her dearly. Love the entire Gaige family and are so fortunate to have been part of Marcy’s life.

  7. I am going to miss my sister so much. t least 3 times a week I would call her and we would have the nicest chats. In fact I talked to her the day before she passed. We have so many wonderful memories to always remember. She would have been calling me to wish me Happy Easter. She would always tell me what she was making for dinner or what she made for breakfast since cooking was a great love in her life. Rest In Peace Marcy. I love you. Lettie
