Pittsford: Joseph Gensheimer passed away on March 10, 2014 at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and
Margaret and siblings David, Edward, Kathryn (Rastatter) Agnes (Wendorf) Eleanor, Magadaline (Crowner/Hinkler) and Herbert. He is survived by Georgia, his wife of 67 years, son Richard (Mona) and grandchildren Ricky and Kristie.
Joe was born and raised in Erie Pennsylvania where he attended Erie East High School followed by the University of Detroit on a
football scholarship becoming co-captain of his team. Joe left college for the Army Air Corps in WWII and became an Aerial Gunner. His B17 was shot down over Yugoslavia and the crew was rescued by the locals. Joe received numerous medals for his service. He returned to complete his Engineering degree at the University of Detroit.
Joe worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Lord manufacturing in Erie, Garlock Corporation in Palmyra and then became Vice President of the rubber division at Ball Rubber Corporation. Joe had several patents in the rubber industry. After retiring, Joe sold Real Estate for Nothnagle. Joe was an accomplished woodworker. He loved his family and enjoyed golf and sports.
Friends may call on Saturday March 15th from 12-2 at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt location), 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, New York. A service will follow the viewing at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
