Fiorino Martin (Marty) Golia died Thursday, March 13, 2025 at age 97 in Rochester, N.Y. He is survived by his daughter Nanette, grandsons Nathan (Amy), Roy, Zane (Amelia) and Leo, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy and son Martin David.
Marty was born May 10, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to immigrants from Benevento, Italy. He grew up in nearby Dearborn. He attended Lawrence Technical Institute and achieved an engineering degree before being drafted during the Korean War. Marty was stationed at Huntsville, Ala., where he worked as an engineer due to his education. He later was transferred to Monmouth, N.J. There, he met Nancy “Bae” Re, herself the first-generation daughter of Sicilian immigrants. They were married in 1956 and had two children, Nanette in 1957 and Martin in 1959.
The family settled in Hartsdale, N.Y. Marty commuted to Norwalk, Conn. for his job at Norden Systems, a radar manufacturer. He remained with the company for his entire career, through several acquisitions, eventually retiring from United Technologies in the early 1990s.
Marty had a reputation as a collector of and tinkerer with electronics and gadgets, maintaining collections of watches, cameras, audio equipment and more well into retirement. With Nancy, he traveled to Italy, France, Portugal, and around the United States; they also maintained a second residence in Ogunquit, Maine for several decades.
In the early 2000s, Marty and Nancy relocated to Pittsford, N.Y., and remained in the Rochester area after Nancy’s death in 2012. For the last several years of his life, Marty lived with Carol Roth.
In accordance with the family’s wishes there will not be a public viewing or service. Those wishing to reach the family may do so through this channel.

I will always remember the day this handsome soldier appeared at our door and asked me if Connie, my Mother, lived there. My Mother visited relatives in Michigan who we never met. Thus began a friendship that has lasted at least 75 years. Farwell cousin Marty Rest in Peace.
