Florence passed away peacefully at the Fairport Baptist Home on February 4, 2021. Born in 1918, she survived two worldwide pandemics, which marked the bookends of her life.
Florence’s passion was her family. She was married to Richard “Red” Grapensteter for 66 years until his death in 2007. Together they had two children, Michael “Mike” Grey (née Grapensteter) and Karen Grapensteter. Florence (Floss) always loved being surrounded by her family. She enjoyed cooking and is famous for her macaroni salad, potato pancakes, and “tilt-top” jello. Florence’s favorite pastimes included reading, knitting and crocheting, and an occasional Scrabble or golf game.
Florence held several retail jobs during her lifetime, including working as a cashier at Loblaws Supermarket and The National Department Store. Florence and Red owned and ran “The Country Peddler,” an antique store, in Cheshire, New York, for 15 years.
Florence is predeceased by her parents, George Matthew Grabenstetter and Marion Taylor Brockel, and siblings, Helen Crandall, Theresa French, Edith Mortensen, George Elmer Grabenstetter, Dorothy Grabenstetter, and Andrew Grabenstetter.
Florence is predeceased by her husband, Red, and her son, Mike Grey.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Karen Evans(Carl), daughter-in-law, Darlene Grey(Mike), grandchildren, Stephen Grey(Jeanine), Laura Grey, Bryan Biggs(Michelle), and Jenna Biggs(Jeff Crockett). She is survived by six great-grandchildren, Alex Grey, Sophie Grey, Nate Grey, Luka Biggs, Merrin Biggs, and Willa Crockett.
A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at the family’s convenience in the summer of 2021. To be notified of the gathering, contact: Grapensteter.Grabenstetter@gmail.com.

She created this wonderful family that I’ve gotten to know over the years. Jenna talked so much about how special her grandma was.. she was blessed with a loving family .
