Steven James Green, cherished husband, father and bampa, passed away peacefully on September 15,  2025. Steve shared his contagious love of life with everyone he met, always making friends of new  acquaintances and family of old friends.

Steve was born in Rochester, New York to parents Henry and Eleanor Green on September 9, 1946. He  graduated from Gates Chili High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Army Reserves shortly  after graduation. He served with distinction until his honorable discharge in September of 1970. Steve  spent much of his professional career working alongside his brother, Tom Green, at the family’s store, Mayer Paint and Hardware.

Steve married the love of his life, Cheryl Woodhall, on September 21, 1967. They shared 57 years of  family, friends, love, and laughter as best friends and dedicated partners. Together Steve and Chery  moved to Fairport, New York and proudly raised two sons together, S.J. (Bevin) and Andrew (partner  Cara). Steve was blessed with 7 grandchildren; Aleah, Micah, Lucas, Regan, Cavan, Levi and Maeve, each  earning a special place in his heart and offering him boundless opportunities for cheering and boasting.  He was an avid participant in local lacrosse and hockey communities, and spent countless hours  following the sports careers of his grandchildren at both high school and collegiate levels.

Steve is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother Thomas Green, Goddaughter Traci (Peter)  Heier, in-laws Bob and Linda Woodhall, Dave and Judy Ververs, Jim and Diane Woodhall, nieces,  nephews, cousins and countless friends.

  12. Chery and family, I am so sorry to learn of Steve’s passing. He was one of the happiest people I ever knew. I’ve known him since he was two or three years old, the same age as my brother. Living next door to each other we saw a lot of each other’s family. Ellie was my second mom. Steve was my other little brother. After my own brother passed Steve and I reconnected. Therefore I still had a little brother. Steve was so proud of you Chery. He was so proud of your children and grand children and what he and Tom built together.I certainly can’t leave out Hockey and your trips South together after retirement. He was definitely was one of a kind! I miss him but know that he’s with God saving space for all his loved ones.

  21. Dear Cherie –
I’m sorry this response is so late – I didn’t hear about Steve’s passing until months after as I’ve been out of touch and was dealing with some health issues myself, but am doing better now.
It was fun spending some time with Steve and you since we graduated from high school all of those years ago – especially at our 50th reunion, when a few of us went to Jeff and Bonnie’s house 1st!
I’m so sorry for your loss and know how loved Steve was by both family and friends! I also have always known that you were the absolute love of his life and he was so enamored by and proud of you and that beautiful family of yours.
I hope you could find peace in knowing that this Christmas Steve was celebrating with Jesus and looking down lovingly on both family and friends. Be well, take care of you and blessings on your entire family. Love, Linda
    I
