Bob Hamel of Fairport, NY passed peacefully on Tuesday September 14. Bob was pre-deceased by his brother Norman Hamel and his sister Rolande Cote’. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean of 55 years, siblings Conrad (Cumberland, RI) and Rene Hamel (Oxford, MA) his four sons, spouses, and grandchildren: David (Lisa), Barry (Pam), Glenn (Allison), and Craig (Maureen). His grandchildren: Brielle, Mia, Madeleine, Connor, Amanda, Demmerle, Claire, and William.

He was the proud 1959 Class President of Mount Saint Charles Academy (Woonsocket, RI) and remained active with the school and in organizing class reunions. He received his BA from Bryant College in 1963. After graduation, from Bryant College, Bob joined the US Coast Guard reserves where he proudly served for 6 years. Bob moved to Fairport, NY in 1977 and over the last 44 years enjoyed working with his colleagues and customers from Xerox, Alan Lupton Assoc, and Global Point Technologies.

Throughout his life he invested so much of his personal time in others through the community. A talented athlete as a youth, he never hesitated to give of his time coaching in baseball, hockey and involvement/leadership in many parent organizations. This included a lot of time volunteering to Fairport Baseball as well as an elected Fairport School Board member.

Among all, Bob will be remembered for his passion and support for his faith, family, and friends. He could always be found at a sporting event, a dance recital, a school music concert or any event for one of his children or grandchildren.

He was a member of Brook-Lea Country Club since 1985 where he loved golfing and enjoyed many close friendships.

He loved to travel with his wife Jean which included multiple trips to Italy, China, Palm Springs, CA, and Vero Beach, FL. Among his favorite times were always the annual family vacations in Dennis Port, MA with his children and grandchildren where he could always be seen with a smile and competing for the Annual Hamel Family golf trophy (how many strokes?). He looked forward to the Clemson football group each year joining his family and friends as well as his Saturday breakfast group in Fairport. His smile and laughter were contagious.

His love and spirit will remain and always be a large part of all who were fortunate enough to be part of his family or call him friend.

Mrs. Hamel, David, Barry, Glenn, Craig and family:

I was saddened to hear about “Uncle Bob’s” passing from one of my best friends, John Cote’. I’ll always remember Bob as a gregarious guy with a larger-than-life personality! The times I was around him through the years were always fun ones, filled with great stories and much spirited sports banter. (He, of course, was a Pats fan…me, notsomuch!) He was a character!
Please know that my condolences are with each of you as well as with Rene and Conrad, two more of my “northern favorites!”
I very much liked and respected “Uncle Bob,” and will miss him.
Mrs. Hamel, I hope you’ll take some comfort in knowing how much Bob was loved by his family and friends, and he loved you all even more in return!

I am so honored to have spent time with Mr. Hamel. I know he is in heaven. He loved God his family and anyone he met. They we loved and believed in me as a person was the way God the Father believes in me. His unconditional love was a support and gift at times when I doubted my call. I’m honored to know Mr. Hamel. His legacy is his family. He raised exceptional faith filled kids. You’re Amazing Bob and I can’t wait to see you in Heaven one day!
My prayers are daily for the Hamel family. Mrs. Hamel you are Amazing too.

I am so sorry to here of Bob’s passing. I was Bob’s golf partner 1 year @ Brooklea. He had such a calming impact on me, comings straight from work pressures, and my poor golf game, Bob had a way of putting life into perspective, family, friends and positive attitude. I felt honored to be with him for that time. He reminded me of my grandfather, one of my life hero’s. He will always be with us. God Bless you Bob.

Have my sympathy on Bob’s passing Jean. Bob was a great guy who got along with everyone. I sat next to him at several DennisSeashores meetings and he made me feel as if I was an old friend of his. He will be greatly missed.
