Barbara Hanford Hanna (age 83) peacefully passed away on March 16th in her second home of Bradenton FL, in the presence of her devoted husband and daughter.
She was born in Rochester, NY on March 21st, 1942. She grew up there as the oldest daughter of six to Henry and Eleanor Hanford. Unbeknownst to her, growing up in the same city was her soon to be best friend Mike Hanna.
After a few stops in the United States, once again back in Rochester, Mike and Barbara set roots and raised four children. She was a caring mother, the kitchen serving as the sun in which the whole family orbited around.
She could often be found outside playing tennis, skiing the slopes, or tending to her gardens; flowers and vegetables. Later, she kept her competitive side alive and brain sharp by becoming a Life Master at bridge, doing the daily jumble and most recently trying to crush family members at Wordle.
When not outside she generously gave of her time to the Perinton Ambulance, as a ski patrol member and to the local hospice house, never asking for or wanting any fanfare. It was with this warmth she developed countless friendships; almost with anyone she met and anyone that met her. She was truly a beautiful wife, partner, and friend. She was a blessing of a mom, grammie, wa, and friend.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Mike, children Katie and Mike, grandchildren Allie, Kelly, Hanna, Julie, Danny, Kaili, Lizzie, Thomas,Connor, Caleb, Colby and Courtney and joins her children Greg and Liz in heaven.
While we are saddened by her passing, we are buoyed by her faith, her life, and the way she touched everyone around her.
Calling hours are at Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd., Fairport, NY. from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on May 29th. A Funeral Mass will be said in her honor at St. John of Rochester Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY at 10:00 am on May 30th. The Mass will also be livestreamed at https://stjohnfairport.org/streaming.

Dear Mike….just saw this….I am so sorry for your loss. My life is still crazy, not really my own anymore, that is my excuse. We didn’t see each other a lot, especially lately, but I thoroughly enjoyed being with you and Barb whenever we were together. I was so sorry to learn of Barb’s passing. She was such a kind and thoughtful soul. I still smile every time I think of the good ol days playing tennis with Barb while our combined band of children played on the swings at Perinton Park. Barb was an amazing person! A true role model, she was great at so many things, including tennis and gardening, and really a renaissance woman. I never saw her once complain about the cards dealt her personally and physically. She was beloved by so many! Hugs for you Mike and wish you and your family many good memories, I have an Aura picture frame that is loaded with many photos of my life, and I see Bob all the time on it and it’s wonderful!

I still have some of Barbara’s chocolate sauce in our freezer. I love Brbara’s chocolate sauce. It is rich and delicious, like Barb. I want it to stay there forever. Or Mike when you come for dinner. We will heat it up and just eat it straight with a spoon. Barbara, being a straight up person, no time for anything moderate warm. We love you, Barbara Hanna.
To Mike and family, I will always remember Barb’s warm smile, boundless energy, and encouraging nature. I remember Barb as a fierce competitor , something I saw first hand when we partnered together to win the Rochester Women’s Doubles tennis Championship in 1984. She played with determination and heart, but always with kindness and grace.
