Mary Lou Haymes, 84, of Fairport passed away peacefully in the loving company of her daughters and granddaughter on the morning of March 7, 2023 after a long illness. She is predeceased by her parents John and Delphine Krotzer and her husband of 46 years Leon. She is survived by daughters Allyson (Robert Vit) of Canandaigua and Jennifer of Fairport; sister Sally Yoder of Troy, PA; grandsons Aaron (fiancée Piper Dean) Vit and Gabriel Vit and granddaughter Gillian Vit; doggie grandchild Hannah; niece, nephews, and friends.
Mary Lou was born and raised in Sayre, PA. She graduated from the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing and was a talented and dedicated operating room nurse in neurosurgery. While she was passionate about her work, Mary Lou ultimately left nursing to focus on home and family in the Southern Tier. Mary Lou was a devoted wife and mother, supporting her physician husband’s busy career as well as her daughters’ academic pursuits and activities. In 1994, Mary Lou and her husband retired to Fairport to enjoy life along the Erie Canal and all the offerings of the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region.
Mary Lou loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren and attending arts and crafts festivals. A Broadway show enthusiast, Mary Lou saw her favorite show Les Miserables nearly 10 times. For many years, she also enjoyed spending time in Sarasota, FL to escape the harsh Rochester winters.
A memorial service led by Rev. Dr. Wade Allen of United Church Canandaigua will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 6:30 pm at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport.

So sorry to hear of Marylou’s passing. She was a sweet woman. I enjoyed talking with her. I especially enjoyed her beautiful Christmas trees during the holidays.
I always enjoyed Mary Lou’s stories.
She was a wonderful person and so sweet.
My sincere sympathy to the family.
Our thoughts are with Marylou’s family and friends at this sad time.
I had the pleasure of living next door to Mary Lou and Leon for many years and could not ask for better neighbors. I will miss my afternoon chats over a nice glass of Mary Lou’s ice tea on her back deck. If she saw me out working she always brought over a glass of ice tea. She was so kind to me and my children and I will miss seeing her during the upcoming summer months. My thoughts are with her entire family and friends. Our loss is God’s gain and she is now reunited with Leon.
