Fairport, New York,
1942 – 2023. Ity is predeceased by her mother, Urcella Ricketts-Miller, her father, Harold Miller, eldest sister, Gladys Chambers, and nieces Millicent Allwood and Constance Chen. She is survived by her children, Owen (Lorna) and Karen and by her grandchildren, Cresner and Aaliyah Holt. She is missed by her loving siblings, Blossom Chen, Pansy Henderson (Canute), Clythie “Peggy” Campbell, Monica Noble, Albert Wong, Stafford Miller (Homa) and Lincoln Miller (Jackie). She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews (Henry and Grace East) and family members.
Ity was born in the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. In 1964, she qualified to enter the Jamaica Constabulary Force (police), where she worked for approximately 17 years while attending the College of Arts, Science and Technology part-time to attain required certifications. Ity served in a variety of capacities such as working with juveniles and as firearms clerk. After achieving the rank of Sergeant, Ity decided to emigrate to Greece, New York, where she hoped to provide a better future for her children. The opportunity came to work in consumer film manufacturing at Eastman Kodak and Ity took it. Ity was a trusted and valued worker and received commendations for perfect attendance for several years at Kodak. She valued education and used that opportunity to send both of her children off to college in 1984. She retired from Kodak after 23 years.
Ity demonstrated her Christian faith (and found joy) in helping her family and friends. She demonstrated her love for her family and friends by opening her home to them, by cooking meals to share with them and gifting delicious Jamaican fruitcakes. Ity enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, delighting in and joining in their laughter after a good meal.
After retiring, Ity volunteered as a Special Police Officer with the Greece Police and also as Chairperson of the Diaconate Board at the First Baptist Church in Fairport.
Hers is a story of strength because of her faith in God and of personal excellence – both of which came from her mother. Ity believed that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service and internment will be held at White Haven Memorial Park, All Season’s Chapel, on Thursday, November 02, 2023 at 12:00 noon. There will be a viewing from 11AM till 12noon preceding the Memorial Service.
The family requests donations/ checks be made to the “Fairport Food Service” and mailed C/O The Fairport School District, 38 W. Church St., Fairport, NY 14450, in lieu of flowers. These funds will be used to offset balances for children who benefit from the reduced meal program

On Oct. 25/2023 my husband and I were devastated by the news of my sister in law and his sister’s passing our hearts was shattered with grief this woman was a beautiful soul she loved her siblings and the entire family. We lived across the street from each other, and what hard time this will be for us when we don’t see her outside tending to her yard putting up her Christmas lights. Even my Grandchildren would say let’s go over to Aunts Ity’s house for some candy ? my dear sister in law may your soul rest in peace you will never be forgotten in our hearts forever ?????

I will miss you my dear auntie Ity. She was like my second mother and roll model when I left Montego Bay and started my new life in Kingston, Jamaica. I learned much from her and cherish memories of the time when she accommodated me at her home with young Owen and Karen.

Aunt Ity was one of the first person I remember when I came to America. I was only 12/13, but her kindness towards my mother(Millicent Fletcher-Allwood) played a huge part in how I model myself now. She will forever live in my heart next to my mom. Rest In Peace ??. You served the world, Your Family and God with style & grace. Say hi to my mom for me. I miss and love ya’ll
