John was the patriarch of the family and he set a wonderful example that all people should exemplify. He was kind, funny, happy, curious and always up for eating ice cream and/or pizza with his family. He loved spending time with his children and his nieces and nephews more than anything. He rarely missed a family celebration or sporting event, and loved spending time with his family during the holidays.
John was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist who shared his love of the outdoors with anyone who would join him. He hunted and fished with his children, camped with his entire family, and especially loved the Adirondacks. The fight will be on amongst his family over the 3-burner Coleman stove that they spent camping mornings around waiting for the best bacon and eggs anyone ever tasted.
A true renaissance man, John loved athletics, especially basketball, baseball, skiing and tennis. He was also an academic, scientist, and inventor who knew so much about so many things, including optics, photonics, astronomy and too many other things to list here. He truly loved learning and instilled that passion in his children.
John was a creative man who saw beauty in the world around him, which he shared through his love of photography, music, painting, carpentry and his work around the house. He was a brilliant man, an optical engineer with many patents in his name, who traveled the world for work and made lifelong friends in every country he visited. He was also extremely generous and caring, and was willing to do anything for the people he loved.
Above all else, John was a loving father and a wonderful person with many friends.
The Hoose family would like to thank all of John’s medical team at the University of Rochester Medical Center and the University of Pennsylvania for their treatment and compassion towards John and his family.
