Thursday, January 27, 2022, age 82. Predeceased by daughter Pamela, brother Frederick (Paula), parents Marvin and Clarissa Howk.
Survived by wife Diana, daughters Karen Later and Stephanie Schaeffer (Chris) and six beloved grandchildren, Drew, Kenyon, Toby Later and Addison, Mason, Breccan Schaeffer. Also, survived by his sisters Lois Scammon (Larry) of Concord, N.H and Linda Langie of Victor N.Y., brothers Lawrence (Patricia) of Victor, N.Y. and Carleton (Patricia) of Beaufort, S.C.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., Richard graduated from Brighton HS in 1957 and Hamilton College in 1961, where he was captain of the men’s basketball team for 2 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Following discharge he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Business MBA program in 1967.
He began his business career as a marketing manager with AMF in New Jersey. He then became President of Mathew’s and Boucher, Inc. in Rochester, N.Y. until his retirement. He also served as President of the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather (Pepa). Family and friends were the most important part of his life. He enjoyed being a coach and fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s games and activities. If not on the sidelines, he could be found enjoying time with family, friends and his labrador retriever dogs at the family cottage on Seneca Lake. He was affectionately nicknamed ‘Pepa the G.O.A.T’ by his grandkids and will always be known as the ‘greatest of all time’ to his family.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be held from 4pm to 6pm on 2/4/2022 at Keenan’s Funeral Home Egypt, N.Y. location.

Dear Diana, I was so sorry to hear about Dick, Having just been there I know how hard it is to go through…please know I am right across the street if you need anything. I send my very best to you, Steph, Chris and all the grandchildren.
We were great friends for a long time. Neighbors on Winding Brook drive from the mid-60″s. Great memories of going to SU basketball games with Dick, John Wright and Bob Lockwood. Dick will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Dick for almost 20 years at Mathews & Boucher. Not only was he a friend but a great teacher. Many of us who worked with him called him “The Captain of Industry.” He will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Howk, I worked with Mr. “H” for 20 years at Mathew’s & Boucher. He was always looking out for his employees, they were important to him. Mr. H. was so kind to me & helped me when needed. He was an amazing man & will be missed greatly. Thoughts & prayers to you & your family.
Dear Diana, Karen and Stephanie, It is with shock and sadness that I express my condolences to you. I met you and Dick in the 1970’s when we joined the neighborhood. Karen and Stephanie were toddlers. All those years we weathered the ups and downs of life in our neighborhood. I knew Dick as an astute, kind friend with a dry sense of humor – a treasured friend and neighbor who was quietly supportive in times of sadness and trial. My love to you all.

I am really sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. Over Christmas, for whatever reason, I was reminiscing about a call he gave me a few years ago. As always, he was very kind and made me feel appreciated. Diana, i was so sorry to learn of Dick’s passing. Marilyn and i got to know Dick at our “Friday night gatherings.” What a great guy! Dick was always engaging and had such a nice way about him. I will miss him.
I’m so sorry to learn of Dick’s passing. Having worked with him for almost 10 years at Mathew’s & Boucher, I came to know Dick as a true gentleman and strong leader. Thanks to his guidance, the company grew and prospered during some challenging business times. Dick was highly respected and admired by all. It was truly my pleasure to have been one of his employees. My deepest condolences to his family.
Mrs. Howk, I just learned this sad news a few hours ago and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Mr. Howk was always very kind to me and I enjoyed his company and guidance. I witnessed the time he spent and all the games with your three girls. I’m sure it was similar with the grandkids. The pictures are great and display the man I remember. Diana, I was very sorry to learn about Dick. He invited me to your cottage on Seneca Lake several years ago but I was unable to go because my wife,, Linda, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer She just passed away so I think I know how you must feel. I retired six years ago and miss seeing you at Wegmans .
