Timothy J. Hughes, of Victor, NY passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023 following a brief illness. Husband of the late Nancy A. Hughes, he is survived by his four daughters, Maureen (Brian) Nornhold, Bridget (Daniel) Doyle, Deborah (Fernando) Carranza, and Sarah (Daniel) Smith. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Patrick, Emily, Kerry, Timothy, Matthew, Madelyn, and Liam; and great granddaughter, Margaret Nancy; and several nieces and nephews.

Tim celebrated his 84th birthday on October 16. Born in Britt, IA, he is preceded in death by his parents, Dean T. Hughes and Helen L. Hughes, his sister, Margaret (Russell) Zelko, and nephew, Eric Zelko.

Tim grew up in Kanawha, IA where he graduated from high school in 1957. In 1961 he graduated from the University of Notre Dame. It was there that his interest in journalism and communications was sparked, leading to a long career as a writer, editor, and effective communicator. He met Nancy during their college years and they married on June 9, 1962. The newlyweds started off married life in Iowa City, IA where Tim completed a year of graduate school at the University of Iowa. Changes came quickly for the young couple as their family began to grow and Tim’s career led them to each new opportunity as they crisscrossed the Midwest and Northeast. An early highlight was a return to his alma mater in 1970 to work in Alumni Relations as the founding editor of the newly launched Notre Dame alumni magazine. Ultimately, Tim would bring his experience writing and editing for newspapers and other publications to Eastman Kodak Company where he had a distinguished 30-year career in Corporate Communications.

Settling with his wife and four daughters in Fairport, NY, Tim found a permanent home for the next 46 years. He was devoted to his family, his Catholic faith, the NY Yankees, and all things Notre Dame. Precious vacation time was spent hosting or visiting family and friends from near and far. Working for Kodak meant he was ready with a camera and film to preserve the memories made on those occasions. It was well known within the family that Tim lived and died with each win or loss of the Fighting Irish. (productmanagementexercises) A trip to Notre Dame’s campus with him would easily convince any skeptic of the Notre Dame mystique. Tim also shared his passion for sports with his children and grandchildren, introducing them to his favorite teams. And when they started participating in recreational and school sports programs, he enthusiastically followed and encouraged their interests. A devout Catholic, he was an active member of parish life at St. John of Rochester. Another organization significant to Tim was the Rochester chapter of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association which he supported by writing the newsletter and serving as its president for a period. In 1994, it was a true honor for him to receive The University of Notre Dame Award of the Year “in recognition of his professional achievement, spirited self-giving to community and devotion to his church, a Notre Dame man in those rich significances of moral responsible leadership.”

Tim had a gift for keeping in touch and enjoying friendships with the many people he connected with over the years. The family would like thank all those who have been a support to him and a source of laughter in the twists and turns of a life well lived. We would also like to thank the new friends in his neighborhood in Victor who welcomed him and treated him as an old, dear friend before and after the loss of his beloved wife, Nancy.

Public calling hours will be held Thursday, November 30 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Rd., Fairport, NY. The funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, December 1 at 11 am at Saint John of Rochester church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY. For those family and friends who live out of the area, the service will be live streamed from the church. www.stjohnfairport.org . A Committal Service will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery Mausoleum, Notre Dame, IN on Monday December 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The Committal Service will be livestreamed at http://www.facebook.com/KaniewskiFuneralHomeLiveStream/.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization supporting the ministries of the Catholic church such as Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, Congregation of the Holy Cross, or EWTN.

We have lost a truly fine Notre Dame man. His heartfelt devotion to his faith and high principles will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. Tim’s professional skills were always amplified by a drive to do the right thing — and do it well. His sense of humor always lay in wait for the unwary and the exaggerators. His wonderful and accomplished family lives on as a strong legacy.

I always loved visiting Aunt Nancy and Uncles Tim’s home as a child. Those memories have been up front in my mind this Thanksgiving week…the Turkey Bowls with cousins, piano playing and singing in the den, and even just playing on the swing set in the backyard.
All my love to Maureen, Debbie, Bridget and Sarah.
I will always cherish those happy times your family made for us each year.

It was a gift,, during early careers, to meet my gifted and good friend, Timothy James Hughes. To know Tim and Nancy and their delightful daughters was to know serious talent and a quality family. We loved him for his great skill,, his wit, and the pleasure of his company. Goodbye to a truly good man.

To Tim’s family: I am very sorry to learn of Tim’s death. I have very happy and positive memories of Time and Nancy. We worked on a variety of Notre Dame related events. He leaves a great legacy of faith and integrity. Be at peace and be assured of the Lord’s presence. Phil Yawman,’62

I’ll always remember my dear cousins, Tim and Nancy. I have so many wonderful memories of them bringing the girls to play in Kanawha and Cesar Rapids. Your loss is deeply felt. Sending prayers for a peaceful heart for all who knew Ann’s loved him. 💗
