Glenn L. Immegart, at the age of 86, passed away at his home in Pittsford early Thursday morning. We feel blessed that he was able to spend the end of his life here at his home where our mom took amazing care of him for these last years. Glenn passed with his loving wife of 62 years Mary Lou and his daughters Heidi and Mary Sue at his side. We hope that he felt our presence and love.
Glenn enjoyed playing high school basketball and trumpet in his high school band. He went on to earn a bachelors of science in music education, majoring in trumpet, at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where he met the love of his life Mary Lou. The story is told that Glenn learned to go to the library to study at this point in his life so that he could spend time with Mary Lou who was known to frequent the library. Glenn and Mary Lou wed on June 16, 1957 and had two daughters Mary Sue and Heidi.
Glenn proceeded to earn his masters degree from the University of Cincinnati and his PhD from The Ohio State University in educational administration. He and Mary Lou relocated to Pittsford, NY where he worked at the University of Rochester for 33 years from 1964-1997 as a Professor of Educational Administration. He served as Chairman of his department for a portion of his time there and was the editor of the Educational Administration Quarterly. He also traveled to Spain with Mary Lou on 10 occasions to train administrators at the University of Deusto where he enjoyed collaborating with Mary Lou, who is also an educator, for feedback during the workshops.
Glenn liked to travel with Mary Lou, his daughters and eventually with his granddaughters Julia and Catherine as well. We all have cherished memories of these family trips particularly to Sanibel Island in Florida. One of Glennʼs most memorable trips was to Switzerland where he was truly in awe of the majestic Matterhorn.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou, his two daughters Mary Sue (Charles) Allen and Heidi (Steve) Immegart-Lewis, his two granddaughters Julia and Catherine Allen, nephews Jeffrey and Robert Kanel, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Glenn was a very effective educator who touched the lives of many including mine. I will always be grateful for his interest and support of the common good. My deep sympathy to his much loved partner in life, Mary Lou and his family.
Glenn’s impact on the Warner School’s Program in Educational Leadership continues to this day. In shaping the program he brought to bear his commitment to the synergistic relationship of research and practice. It was that same commitment that led to his being called upon to help design and establish an in-service training program for school directors in Spain. Glenn was not only a reformer in the training of school administrators; for all the years I worked with him, he was a father who was enormously proud of his children, sharing with me their triumphs as they moved toward adulthood. I will always remain grateful to Glenn, who was not only crucial to me obtaining my initial position with the school, but also a principled and gracious person when interacting with me in the following years. My very best to Mary Lou; I can’t fathom the pain that Glenn’s passing must have had and will continue to have in the years to come.
I don’t even know this man BUT what s beyond Sweet happy and loving life he lived ❤️ I only wish mine will end this way.
