It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce Irene Ireland on March 2, 2025 at her home in Pittsford, NY. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Joyce was born on February 17, 1936 and raised in Williamsport, MD by parents Raymond (Bud) and Carrie Mae Mummert.  Joyce grew up with her sister Lois, and brothers, Edward and Charles.  While in Williamsport, Joyce was very active in her high school class including cheerleading team captain, playing basketball and fieldball, senior class secretary, and was the lead role of ‘Mabel’ in her senior play “Pirates of Penzance”.  She had a tremendous singing voice and an infectious positive energy that brightened those around her throughout her life.

Joyce married William (Bill) Ireland in 1970 and raised their family in Hagerstown MD.  Joyce started a career at Farmers and Merchants Bank of Hagerstown, progressing through several roles.  She enjoyed family time vacations and was active in her social bridge club and the Ladies 9-hole golf club.

Joyce and family moved to Pittsford NY in 1985 where she continued her career in banking until 1996.  In 2000, she started her role as a school aide at Park Road Elementary School in Pittsford.  Joyce spent 16 years thoroughly enjoying time with the school children and staff where she was warmly called “Mrs. I”.  She also spent many years working for the Board of Elections at the local polling location.

Her legacy of love and optimism lives on through her grandchildren, where Joyce was affectionately known as ‘Nana’ to Jessica Brown, Amanda Ritchie, Alexander, Lindsey, and Taylor Ireland, and great-grandchild Christian John.

Beyond her grandchildren, Joyce is survived by her husband Bill, and her son Randall (Randy), son Thomas (Tom) and his wife Allison.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Lollypop Farm – The Humane Society of Greater Rochester, 99 Victor Rd, Fairport NY 14450.

Joyce will be forever loved and deeply missed. May she rest in peace and may her memory continue to brighten those that were a part of her life.
