Johnert, Roy W.

Roy W. Johnert, 85, of Irondequoit NY passed peacefully in hospice on March 12, 2025, after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Roy, known fondly as Joe, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Roy was born on November 9, 1939, in Queens NY to the late John and Elsie Johnert. He grew up in College Point, and spent all of his leisure time on the beaches of Long Island. He attended Hoftstra University as an undergraduate and Columbia University as a graduate student. After graduation, he went to work at Eastman Kodak and relocated to Rochester, NY. 

Roy was a devoted Christian, deeply committed to his faith. He was a member of Hope Lutheran church for the last 60 years.

He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed cooking, gardening,  and his greatest love was that of the ocean.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol (Calder, Johnert) as well as his daughter Kim (David Cruttenden) and Granddaughter Mikayla.

  4. Roy was a Commission Leader and devoted member of the Hope Lutheran Church Council. His contribution to Hope using his leadership skills made him a valuable member and it was my privilege as the Council President to have him on my team.

  5. So very sorry for your loss. Roy will be greatly missed on Bald Head Island particularly in the Cove. He was a good friend and neighbor.

  6. I had the pleasure of working for Roy in the Training Dept. at Eastman Kodak back in the 80’s. He was always a genuine caring guy. After being retired for 30 years, I had an opportunity to reconnect with Roy at Hope Church, May the Holy Spirit provide comfort and peace to your family during this time of sorrow. Lifting you all up in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

  7. Roy Johnert was a Pal from the early College Point days. We lived close in a small town. He was a good athlete – baseball player. He lived the water – East River / Long Island Sound…
    We both graduated from Hofstra University.
    He was a real standup guy.
