James Keebler, 89, of Pittsford NY passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025.  A devoted husband of 64 years, father, brother, and grandfather, he was surrounded by his loving family at his passing.

Jim was born and raised in Skaneateles NY and was resident of Bushnell’s Basin for more than 60 years.  A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he worked for Stromberg Carlson, General Dynamics, and had a long, distinguished career at Harris Communications.

Jim was a volunteer with the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department for more than 60 years.  Having served in numerous line and civil officer positions during those decades he received a number of citations for his service from legislators and government executives.  The BBFD recently honored him by dedicating their Station One in his honor last October.

The dedication plaque that now adorns the building reads:

“This station is dedicated in honor of James W. Keebler, a true pillar of our community.  For more than six decades, James exemplified dedication, courage, and selflessness, serving as a firefighter, leader, and friend to all.  His commitment to public service began on Sept 1 1964 when he joined the fire department and has continued to inspire those around him.

A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joan, James balanced a distinguished career with a deep commitment to volunteerism. His professional life, marked by integrity and hard work, was complemented by his generous spirit and unwavering support for others.  From his time in various leadership roles with the department to his volunteer efforts with Saints’ Place and Habitat for Humanity, James has always been a beacon of hope and compassion.

James’ legacy is not only defined by his long service but also by the countless lives he has touched through his kindness, dedication, and willingness to help others.  His involvement with his church and community organizations reflects his enduring commitment to making the world a better place.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions and with heartfelt appreciation, we dedicate this station in his name.  His spirit of service will forever be a guiding light for all who walk through these doors.”

In addition to his volunteering at BBFD, Jim volunteered with Saints Place ministry at St. Louis and St. John of Rochester, worked with Habitat for Humanity, and several other service endeavors.

Jim was a lifelong athlete also an avid hunter and fisherman and fan of all things involving the Adirondacks (especially history from the early settlements to the arrival of the automobile), Southern Tier, and Erie Canal.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, their son Tom (Bob), daughter Christine Kerr (Joe), and daughter, Patricia Morse.  He is also survived by two grandchildren, Brendan and Shannon Kerr (Daniel), and his siblings Anne, Peggy, John, Joan, and David.

A viewing and funeral mass will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2025 11AM at St. John of Rochester Church 8 Wickford Way, Fairport. The funeral may be Livestreamed at https://stjohnfairport.org/funerals. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider a donation to the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department (www.bushnellsbasinfd.org ) or the Saints Place Ministry (https://saintsplace.org/ )
