King, Thomas E. “Tim”

Thomas “Tim” King was born in 1942 to Amelda and Thomas King in Oswego, NY, the younger brother of Maxine King Holland. He attended St. Paul’s School and graduated from Oswego High and went on to earning his B.S. from Oswego State followed by graduate work at Brockport and Geneseo.  Tim started teaching in 1966 at Barker Road Elementary and, with his multiple certifications, went on to the middle school, teaching science, social studies, math and photography.  He finished his career in 2001 as a loved and well respected math teacher at Mendon High School.

His students were intrigued by Tim’s wide range of interests: travels in Europe, motorcycles (he rode from coast to coast in USA), music (he played the piano and guitar by ear), geology, history, especially everything to do with WW II, and photography, to name a few.  He often described himself as a “veritable fount of non-essential knowledge.”  Moreover, Tim truly loved his students and missed them even after years of retirement.

To Claudia Elliott’s grandkids, “Timmy” was another name for grandpa. He was a part of their lives from their births and they loved him dearly. No one could best him at “Simon Says.” To his nieces and nephews, he was the cool uncle who would show up on his BMW bike.

In 1994, Tim’s dream of a cottage came true as his beloved “Schloss” was constructed on Lake Carmi in VT.  With Claudia, he spent many happy weeks there, meeting new friends and enjoying the lake and surrounding mountains.

Tim thought that heaven would be a place where he would meet all the dogs he ever loved. There were many including those on his paper route as a boy; Lucky, his first; and several grand-dogs and neighborhood dogs that he stuffed with woofies.  So, rest in peace, Dear Tim, among your four-legged friends and all those loved ones who are there waiting for you.

Palmyra – Passed away peacefully on April 10, 2019. Survived by sister, Maxine Holland; loving companion, Claudia Elliott; her children and grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mr. King, as I will always fondly know you as, I miss you sir. You were without a doubt, my best and greatest Teacher I ever had! Out of all my teachers in Junior High and High School, you were the best. A TRUE “TEACHER” and not just a simple Instructor to us kids. Thank you sir, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for all your kindness, your patience, your guidance and your wisdom Tim, Or as I always called you, “Mr. K” You were and will always been close to my heart sir, my dear friend! Until we meet again one day sir and thank you for all you did to help make me a better person. Your student and friend always, Tim Robbins, PMHS Class of 1983.

I will always know you and remember you as Mr. King or Mr. K. I didn’t get this in my first comment area. Thank you Mr. K for all you did for me and all of us kids from PMHS.

Tim was a close, personal friend for 37 years. Who would have thought that answering a want add in the paper for a house mate would be the bases for a friendship that would last for so long. It was always comforting to know that whether passing thru, on my way to deer camp or coming back to the mid west, I could get a room and board ,and all the answers to my questions on love, life, politics, and just a good old straightening out ! Stopping by always meant we had to have a sample of the top shelf, which we both enjoyed.
He will be sadly missed in my life. I can only wish that I had gotten to know him earlier. Claudia, I hope to see you at the service. To his Family, I will miss him and I’m sorry he is gone.
So long old friend, until we meet again, have it on ice and preheat the grill, love Shawn.
