Ray entered eternal rest with our Lord on November 30, 2023, at age 96.  Predeceased by his loving wife Ginny, and parents Stella and Louis Koenig.

Survived by children, Douglas (Kimberly) Koenig, Karen Koenig, Cheryl Koenig (Stuart Pearson), and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, moved with his mother at a young age to Utica, NY, and graduated in 1944 fromBinghamton North High School. Upon graduation, he worked various jobs before pursuing his aptitude for numbers.  He attended Harpur College (present-day SUNY Binghamton) and in 1954 earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

After college graduation, he began his career as an accountant at Stromberg-Carlson in Rochester.  It was there he met his wife,Ginny.  After dating for about a year, they married in 1957 and settled into a small house within walking distance of their work.

In 1965, he and Ginny moved to Fairport where they raised their family and became long-time members of St. John of Rochester church.  After a few years, Ray left Stromberg-Carlson and began his own accounting and tax preparation business.

Ray fully supported Ginny and the children in their interests and activities, even if it was outside his comfort zone.  He would smoosh himself into a kiddie ride, or go camping with the Boys Scouts, even though he wasn’t the outdoorsy type.  He loved to help Ginny with her cooking – by eagerly trying out her latest new recipe (he always enjoyed a good meal)!

The family went on many trips as the kids were growing up, frequently to historic sites or to visit Ray’s parents in Florida(and of course Disney World). In retirement, he and Ginny enjoyed travels to Hawaii, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, Grand Canyon, California, Florida, and many destinations along the East Coast.

Ray possessed ‘a gift for gab’ and easily struck up conversations with people he met.  He loved a good cup of coffee (usually more than one), was an avid reader of western novels, enjoyed sci-fi & action movies, watching sports, and membership in the local Retired Men’s Club.

Never wavering from his faith – he believed in love of family, service to community, and in charitable giving.  As such, hegenerously volunteered his time with Boy Scouts, Institute of Management Accountants (where he served one year as President), Perinton Golden Age Club, Hearing Loss Association of America, and many others.  He received numerous awards recognizing his service and dedication.  Even in his later years living at the Fairport Baptist Homes, he was on the Resident Council, and of course, the food committee (ha-ha).

Through it all, Ginny was his partner in life and love.  Theirswas a 63-year love story with nearly every day spent together.  Though they have now left us, their love of family, kind hearts, and unwavering faith will always be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved them.

The family would especially like to thank all the staff at the Fairport Baptist Homes for excellent care during their finalyears.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fairport Baptist Homes Foundation or to Foodlink.

Calling hours Tuesday December 5, from 3 to 4 pm at Richard H Keenan Funeral Home (7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd – Egypt location). A Memorial Service for Ray will begin at 4 pm.

May Ray’s kind and loving soul rest in peace. I can imagine the joy he experienced when he was reunited with his dear Ginny. They both gave generously of their time and expertise to HLAA, for which we are deeply grateful.

I met Ray while preparing the audit of the Housing Council in 1983. We instantly became friends and very much enjoyed our dinners with Ray and Ginny. We will miss him very much. He was born during the greatest generation and was a true gentleman. Our deepest sympathies to Doug, Karen and Cheryl. Steve Gaudino

I met Ray in 1978 at the Housing Council, and soon began to appreciate his skills and dedication. He took on the most complex tasks with no hesitation and with total accuracy. I could not have done my projects without his willingness to tackle the new and difficult with his cheerfully applied skills. In retirement, he remained my friend. We enjoyed Italian meals with him and Ginny. He helped me through a difficult time with cheery phone calls and steadfast advise. He will be truly missed.
