Carlyn Frances Mance, age 79 of Egypt, NY, passed away peacefully at the palliative care unit at Strong Hospital on December 22nd.

Carlyn is survived by her daughters Melissa Mance-Every (Shawn) and Melynda Mance, her beloved granddaughters Hayleigh and Kayleigh Mance-Every as well as her great granddaughter McKenzie Babcock. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many other family and friends who loved her, as well as her fur grandbabies.

Carlyn is predeceased by her loving husband Harold (Bumps), her parents Carl and Frances Nelson, her sister Darlene Stiles, her infant son Carl as well as many aunts and uncles.

Born on February 6th,1946, Carlyn lived her entire life in the Hamlet of Egypt and spent all that time living on Loud Road. She grew up alongside her sister Darlene at Nelson’s Store, which was owned by her parents Carl and Frances. Carlyn was a proud Fairport graduate from the class of 1964, having just celebrated her 61st class reunion over the summer. She was so proud of her Alma Mater, that both her daughters and granddaughters also grew up as proud Fairport Red Raiders. For over 50 years, Carlyn was a hairdresser, beginning at Carlyn’s Carousel which she owned, then she eventually began traveling to do hair for older members of the community.

Carlyn married the love of her life, Harold “Bumps” Mance, in 1973. They were by each other’s side for 43 years, and even when Bumps passed, her love for him still remained. Being the wife of a firefighter, Carlyn became a member of the Egypt Ladies Auxiliary, which she was a member of for over 50 years. Her ties to the Egypt Fire Department went back even further as her parents were both founding members of the fire department and the Ladies Auxiliary. Despite all these accomplishments in her life, Carlyn loved her family with everything she had. Whenever anyone spoke with her, you were most likely going to hear about her family as she was always so proud of anything and everything no matter how small. Carlyn absolutely adored both her granddaughters as well as her great granddaughter, as her life revolved around watching them learn and grow.

Besides her family, Carlyn loved camping with family and friends at a campground in Painted Post. She always had such fond memories of her time there. Carlyn loved to travel and her most favorite trip she got to go on, among many others, was her first trip to Walt Disney World. She went with her entire family and was just so thankful that she got to go even if it wasn’t until her early 70’s. Carlyn was a huge Buffalo Bills fan and could be seen cheering on the team faithfully every Sunday from the very beginning. She was fond of all animals no matter the kind but loved all her furry grandbabies the most. She loved to garden and was very good at it, as she was the only one in the family with a green thumb.

Calling Hours will be held at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport from 3 – 5pm Friday January 2nd, 2026. A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at 2pm.
