Martens, James Andre

James Andre Martens, lifelong resident of Fairport, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 2, 2023.

Jim is predeceased by his wife, Maureen, infant son, Andrew and parents, Andre and Louise Causyn Martens.  He is survived by his children Jayne Brown, Julie (Mark) Shahin, James (Carol) Martens, John (Maria) Martens and Jennifer (Marc) Odorisi and his sisters Nancy (Steve) Smith and Kathy (Steve) Lansing.  Jim also leaves twelve fabulous grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jim lived a life of service. As a young man, he proudly served as a Navy corpsman. Locally, he was a lifetime volunteer for Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department, an organization that was dear to him. He was a volunteer dog walker at Lollypop Farm and a foundingand active member of his church, St. John of Rochester.

Jim was President and owner of Irondequoit Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Packers at the Genesee Valley Regional Market.  He had a strong reputation as an honest business man and a man of integrity.

JIm rarely missed his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He would be on the sidelines in the sun, the rain or cold, cheering on his family.

Jim was an avid gardener and, some would say, legendary for his tomato harvest.

In honor of Jim’s commitment to his community his family requests donations be made to Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department or Perinton Ambulance and that you do an act of kindness and service in your community

Calling Hours Tuesday June 6, 2023 9:30-11AM at St. John of Rochester Church 8 Wickford Way, Fairport. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11AM.

Jim’s obituary sums up his life. His family was the mainstay of his life. In his declining years his children were there for him. Bless them all.

It is a shock to read of Jim’s passing. He was a super nice person. He and Maureen were the best. This world has lost two of the nicest people one could know. Their family are the greatest as well. I would make their home my first stop whenever I returned for a visit to New York while living in California, Arizona and Kentucky. They visited me in California and Arizona and we had a great time together on each occasion. I talked with jim on the phone less than 2 weeks ago and he sounded good and was watching his Yankees. I will miss my friend. My sincere condolences to the Marten Family. May he rest in peace.
