James A. Martin
November 7, 1928 – August 31, 2025.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James A. Martin of Fairport, NY who left us on August 31, 2025 at the age of 96.
James, known as “Pops” to his friends was born on November 7, 1928 in Hoboken, NJ. Shortly thereafter his family moved to 160 Wadsworth Avenue in New York City.
As a young man, James was inducted into the United States Army as a Radio Repairman. His military career ended when he received an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal.
James and Carole B. Everts were married in 1954. They had three children and settled into a home in Old Tappan, NJ. In 1987, James and Carole amicably parted ways.
In what they both later called fate, James met Elizabeth Russin on an airplane. Liz was traveling to meet her new granddaughter. On July 28th, 1990, James and Elizabeth began their marriage and enjoyed over 30 years of a strong, loving marriage.
In his later years, James found fulfillment in dancing, gardening and learning. He took and taught classes in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He continued learning and sharing knowledge until the age of 90, enjoying classes such as Tai chi and history.
James is survived by his children; Kevin (Jeanne) Stephan (Deborah) and Stacey (Patrick ); 4 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. James had two siblings, Veronica (deceased) and Sheila. He is survived 7 nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday October 29 at 11:00 am, at Church of the Resurrection, 63 Mason Rd, Fairport, NY 14450.
