Our sweet and special Laurie went to the Lord on February 8, 2020, with her mom and her favorite sister by her side. Laurie is predeceased by her father Robert W. Mason.
Carrying heavy hearts Laurie is survived by her mother Barbara Mason; brothers Tim Mason of Fairport (and his wife, Lori); Chris Mason of Fayetteville, NY (and his wife, Melinda); sister Lisa Sauer of Elmira Heights, NY (and her husband, Kevin) and several nieces and nephews Chris and Tyler Mason, Samantha Sauer (and fiancé FreddieLiederbach), and Michael and R. James Mason.
Laurie lived as an active member of her family until realizing her goal of independence thanks to the compassionate care and support from many local agencies including: Holy Childhood and The Arc of Monroe.
Laurie enjoyed a full and happy life spending her time traveling, participating in activities with staff and housemates of the Arc, as well as cheering on her beloved Yankees.
While Laurie’s family and extended family members provided her the highest level of love and support, it has been her sister Lisa, and husband Kevin, who in the two years since moving into the Chemung County Nursing Home where Lisa works, has been the angel by Laurie’s side. Her love for her “baby bird” was extraordinary and so, in the two words that were Laurie’s last … thank you!
Those wishing to honor Laurie’s life with a donation can direct their generosity to either of these two organizations:
Catholic Charities Community Services
1099 Jay Street, Building J
Rochester, NY 14611
This is an organization which Laurie’s brother Tim proudly serves as chairperson of the board. An organization committed to caring for individuals with development disabilities as well as TBI and other chronic illnesses.
Chemung County Nursing Facility
Activities Department-LM
103 Washington St.
Elmira, New York
This is the facility where Laurie spent the last two years of her life and where her sister Lisa served as Activities Director before being promoted to social worker. This facility provided the highest level of care, support, and love to Laurie as she struggled with dementia and immobility over the past two years.

My sincere condolences to the family. I Knew Lori from being in the group I was supervisor over at the ARC workshop, many years ago. I often called her cupcake because of her cute little demeanor. Years after I left ARC , I would contact her just to see what she was up to. My last visit was at her East Henrietta Road residence where she resided at the time. She didn’t remember me like she did at others times when I’d call or she would see me. As we talked I realized that she had health problems. She was still polite, talkative Lori my little Cupcake, full of compassion trying to make her friend feel better ,who live there, by using language to tell her she loved her. Lori will always hold a special place in my memory. We loved her but God loved her best so he called her home to her new eternal realm of spiritual existence , where she is now at peace .
