It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Anthony (Tony) Patrick Mazurkiewicz, of Fairport NY on July 21, 2022. Tony was born on November 7, 1967 in Amsterdam, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lynn; 4 children, Brooks (Shawn) Balcer, Bradley Jamison, Brent Mazurkiewicz, Bryce Mazurkiewicz; 3 grandchildren, Kinsley, Emery, and Noa Balcer; parents, Francis and Rose Mazurkiewicz; brother, Frank (Laura) Mazurkiewicz; sister, Lisa (Ross) Rumfola; aunt, Martha Gilchrist; brother in law, Alan (Vail) Gates; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and Anthony’s large Law Enforcement extended family.
Tony was a graduate of Avon Highschool and a graduate of SUNY Brockport College. He then went on to work for the Monroe County Sheriff’s department before transferring to the Rochester Police Department in 1993. He proudly served in RPD for 29 years and was eagerly awaiting spending his retirement fishing, traveling, relaxing and spending a lot of time with his family.
Tony was a smart, funny person who loved nothing more than to cook for people and spend his free time surrounded by his loved ones. He was a long time resident of Fairport, NY and enjoyed supporting his children and later, his grandchildren throughout their various cheerleading, hockey, football, lacrosse and softball events. Tony was a self proclaimed food connoisseur and enjoyed trying new recipes and unique restaurants. Tony’s ideal way to spend an evening was sitting around his backyard bonfire, telling jokes, sneaking snacks to his best friend Charlie (the cat), having good conversation and watching his granddaughters run through the yard.
Tony will be remembered as a witty jokester who could make anyone laugh. To his family, he will always be the absolute best man that ever existed. In Tony’s honor, please take an extra evening to cancel whatever else you had planned and instead share a good meal, stories and laughs with your family. What we wouldn’t give to spend even one more night like this with him. Anthony’s visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 1 PM to 8 PM at the Richard H. Keenan funeral Home 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd (Egypt Location), Fairport, NY 14450. All shuttle services will be provided at Fairport High School. His Funeral Service will be Celebrated on Monday, August 1, 2022, 12 PM at the Blue Cross Arena, 100 Exchange Blvd, Rochester, NY 14614. It is livestreamed at https://www.whec.com/. Interment White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rochester Police Locust Club FBO Anthony Mazurkiewicz 1425 Lexington Avenue Rochester, New York 14606.

Maz, you are deeply missed. Your witty humor helped getting through rough days. You were taken too soon. Prayers to your family and fellow LEO’s during this very difficult time.
Tony, I didn’t have the privilege of knowing you, yet what you gave your life up for impacted me. I know many that served alongside you and respect what y’all are willing to do on behalf of public safety and humanity. Your integrity, character, and compassion on behalf of mankind will never be forgotten. Thank you on behalf of mankind for your sacrifice. Your entire family including all that served with you past and present will remember you. God needed an undercover detective to work a covert operation way up there. Your mission here is complete.
I want to my deepest condolences to the Family of Toy. I can’t put into words about your loss. I’ve been praying so much prior to his passing, and I believed that God had a plan for the rest of the Family and RPD Family. I know it hurts and we wonder why. God knows the reason and Tony knows now, since he is with the Lord. It will take time to deal with this, but by keeping the Faith will help us all heal. God Bless and RIP Tony…
I had the pleasure of serving with Tony for many years in the RPD. I extend my deepest sympathies to his entire family in this senseless and tragic loss. My family prays for Tony’s Family and his extended family of co-workers and peers. His service and loss will never be forgotten. Tony’s character and integrity will never be forgotten. He was one of the most excellent communicators on the street and displayed quick wit, knowing how to deescalate any situation. “Maz” was fearless in his pursuit of impartial justice and most respected by all that knew him. As a former member of the Tactical Unit I can say it is not a place you go to ease into retirement, it is a place where you continue in the fight for the community you serve. Matthew 5:9 in the Bible states “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”. May you rest in peace Tony for faithfully serving your family, brothers and sisters in blue, and almighty God.
There are NO words to speak on this terrible tragedy. This HERO is now in Heaven and looking over his family, friends, and his Brothers in Blue. Prayers are being offered for the family to keep Faith and Strength at this terrible time. May God Bless Officer Mazurkiewicz.
Rest In Peace my brother and my sincere condolences to his family and friends
We are so terribly sorry that you lost Tony. Our hearts break for your family.
I had the good fortune of being in the same academy class as Tony for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. Even though it has been many, many years since I last saw him, I remember his sense of humor and his dedication to law enforcement. He was a good man and friend. May all the wonderful memories of Tony help his family and friends through this difficult time.
I’ve been retired for 24 years and I remember Tony from the job. .
Our hearts ache for the loss of such a good, honorable police officer who put his life in front of evil. May Tony RIP and May his family and friends find some comfort in the legacy he has left behind.
To the Family, friends and fellow Law enforcement Officers please accept my deepest sympathy for the tragic loss of this dear man.
To lose a Father and Husband is difficult at best but to have him taken as he was while serving and protecting the community he swore to care for is inexcusable.
My Prayer and wishes for peace and rest go out to you all.
We can change things so this does not happen again. I pray that we will. God bless.
As a mother and wife, I send my deepest sympathies to the family of this officer who has dedicated the majority of his life protecting our community. I cannot imagine your pain but please take comfort in knowing our community is praying for you all. I also want to let his family and fellow officers know how much the community respects and appreciates the work our officers do every day. It is a thankless job at times and many of us will never know the tremendous pressure you are under, and tragedies you see that you undoubtedly carry with you each day. Because of our officers we can live naively enjoying each day. I only wish our appreciation of our officers were apparent every day, not just when one of our heroes are taken. God bless you all xxxx
I don’t know you , but my heart is broken that this senseless tragedy took place ! My prayers and thoughts to your family , friends and Rochester police department!
I have opened this comment section a half dozen times, but can find no words, just know that you are all in our thoughts.
My sincere condolences to the entire Mazurkiewicz family. I pray for you all in this tragic time. I was introduced to Tony in 1999. He was my Field Training Officer. I’m forever grateful to have learned so much from such a great man. Some years later our paths crossed again, where we served together in the Tactical Unit for several years. I always enjoyed working with him because he could always make me laugh. He truly made the job so much better. R.I.P. MAZ.
Lynn, I am sorry for your devastating loss. Comfort and condolences to you and your family through all the days ahead. You are all in my prayers.
I knew Tony from high school. He graduated the year above me and he was always so nice! It’s no surprise all that he accomplished in his life and career. This is such a tragic loss, and I send my deepest condolences to his family as they grieve. RIP Tony!

Tony,
Thank you….for your dedication, thank you for the countless times that you and your Brothers on the TAC Unit assisted my colleagues and I on enforcement ops in Rochester. You kept our community safe, our LEO’s safe. The Officers and staff of the Rochester Police Department are among the finest in America. Thank you for setting the example – of an exemplary Officer, I watched, I learned, I was better for it. My heart and prayers go out to your family, to your RPD family. Rest In Peace Tony- You made the world a better place and shall always be remembered.
-Will (ATF -retired)
We got to know Officer Tony via travel softball. His daughter, Bryce, played on the same travel team that our grandaughter Rebecca played on. Tony and I became good friends and shared conversational talk about subjects we both had in common. At first I didn’t recognize that Officer Tony was the officer they were talking about. After seeing the facebook posts by our grandaughter, Amanda, and talking with our oldest son, Lyndon J., I realized with great sadness that it was the “conversational buddy” we got to know. He would sit out in the outfield with Lyndon J. , myself and a couple other dads and watch the softball games together. Thanks Officer Tony for the time we got to spend together and for your many years of service.
Tony is forever in our memories. He would do anything for his daughter during numerous softball games. practices and tournament often sleeping between games because he worked all night. I mean anything , waiting in line for hot dogs, fixing catcher’s equipment and playing taxi cab driver for numerous tournaments. Tony’s would often say “I just go where Lynn and Bryce need me to go “Tony and Larry where my go to buddies to sit with during games . Thanks for being a friend for the three years Rebecca and Bryce played softball. You will be missed , Rebecca’s Dad. That’s what Tony called me and to be honest that’s the nicest greeting a Dad can say to another Dad.
My deepest sympathy to all of Anthony’s family and extended family of our local police. How lucky we all were to be blessed with such a wonderful person in our community. I never had the honor of meeting Anthony, but it’s obvious he was and always will be greatly loved. Thank you for your service. Rest in peace Anthony.
