Patricia “Ann” W. McKenna, 85, of Pittsford, New York, peacefully passed away on January 4, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ann was born on September 23,1938 to Francis and Marjorie Walsh in White Plains, New York. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1956, and then obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.
After graduation, Ann worked as a public health nurse for several years. She was passionate about serving her community and loved what she did for a living.
Having known one another as family friends, Ann started dating John McKenna and married in January 1963. John and Ann went on to have four daughters, Mary Anne, Maureen, Karen, and Erin.
Ann’s true passion was always caring for others. After leaving her profession of nursing to raise her family, she continued to put others before herself by being active in her community and church. She served on many parent committees for her children’s school and the Parish Council of St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood, New York. On a smaller scale, but equally important to her, many will remember deliveries of fruit compote, soup, cookies, rolls and many other confections.
Ann was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Her home was a welcoming place to all, happy to cook at the last minute for anyone who walked through the door. She will be remembered by many as a second mother.
Ann was predeceased by her husband of forty-three years, John B. McKenna, her father and mother, Francis P. Walsh and Marjorie Manfred Walsh, her brothers James Walsh and Francis “Pat” Walsh, her sister, Maureen Munn, sister-in-law, Patricia McGinnis, and brothers-in-law, Gerald McGinnis, and James McKenna. She is survived by her daughters MaryAnne Hight (Richard), Maureen Blackey, Karen Kammholz (Bradley) and Erin Jenkins (Jamie), grandchildren John Hight (Jenifer), Ann Carmany (Bruce), Tim Hight, Daniel Blackey, Christopher Blackey, Brennan Kammholz and Maddie Kammholz, great grandchildren Margaret Hight and Jameson Carmany, brothers-in-law Joseph McKenna (Mary) and James Munn, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at St. Louis Church, Pittsford, New York on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. A private burial will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Cloverwood-Glenmere Staff Appreciation Fund, or the Highland Foundation.

Ann was a neighbor, across the street from us, on Woodcliff Terrace. She was always so sweet and friendly with a great sense of humor. We were very fortunate to have known her and to be recipients of her homemade rolls. We just saw Ann a couple of weeks ago at Christmas and she still welcomed us with her big smile. We are so sorry for your loss.
Maureen and family,
I am sorry for your loss and hope that you will have peace and all the good memories from your mom’s life!
