McNamara, Margie Lee

Margie Lee McNamara (Campbell) of Fairport NY went to her eternal resting place surrounded by her daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren on Saturday April 20, 2024 at the age of 91. Predeceased by her parents Russell and Margaret Campbell, her husband John McNamara, her sister Gloria O’Connor and her brother Richard Campbell. Margie is survived by her daughters Cynthia Lee Kellogg (Grady) of Charlotte, NC, Meredeth Ann Paddock (Shelby) of Pittsford, NY and her 6 grandchildren; Ryan Kellogg, Heather Kellogg Durga, Sara Kellogg, John Paddock, Andrew Paddock and Madeline Paddock.

Margie was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 10, 1933 and eventually moved to Fulton, NY. She graduated from Fulton High School and attended Butler University in Indiana. After graduation she went on to work for Proctor and Gamble for several years before returning to school at Syracuse University to obtain her master’s degree in education. She settled in Fairport, NY in 1967 and raised her family there. (https://progressivedentalmn.com) She eventually went back to work as a part time English substitute teacher in the Fairport School district, before taking on her final job as a guidance counselor at Mercy High School. This was her love, her passion, helping high school students with their college and career choices. Even after leaving Mercy, she continued to work with high school students from her home.

Upon retirement, Margie spent countless hours in her yard, gardening and was involved in numerous organizations at Monroe Golf Club, the Rochester Science and Museum Center and with her college sorority Theta group both locally and nationally. In addition, she spent countless hours with her grandchildren attending functions at their schools and sporting events.

Margie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who put her all into everything she did. She will always be remembered as a “task master” and was a caring, generous, loving and intelligent woman. She would never give up a good fight and this was evident in her final hours. She is now at peace and will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Mass is planned for Tuesday April 30, 2024 at 11am at St John of Rochester Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport. A live stream of Margie’s mass can be found at  https://www.stjohnfairport.org/streaming.

Mom I miss you beyond words. Even though the last 4-5 months you didn’t know me, in my heart I knew you did. i have not been able to do anything yet with your room. Our house is so quiet and will forever be changed. I know dad came to get you. You are in a better place now.
    I love you mom

Once we moved from across the street, we lost touch, but we still held on to memories of your family as you were growing. You have such fond memories of her that will always help you during difficult times. May God bless you. Mike and Emmy Clark

On behalf of the Rochester Alumnae Panhellenic, we send our condolences. Marge was always willing and contributed to any activity or cause we embarked on. She was instrumental in pushing our group to think bigger and made one of our major fundraisers what it is today. She made an impact on many people and will be sadly missed.

I was one of those high school students who met “Mrs. McNamara” in her home circle 1991 and discussed college and career choices. I still have the neatly written and clearly organized “Color Your Parachute Summary” she created for me and remember her telling me, “The job you will get out of college doesn’t even exist yet.” She was exactly right and I still look back at that summary every time I make a career change. I also had the pleasure of reconnecting with her over dinner a few summers ago. She was a formidable woman that I appreciated and admired more and more over time. Sending love and prayers to her family.
