Beverly L. Mead of Victor, New York (formerly of California) passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the age of 91. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a creative soul who made friends easily and kept them for a lifetime.

Born on September 14, 1934, to Ruth and Herb Moore, Beverly grew up in La Mesa, California, with her brother, Gordon, enjoying a quiet childhood. A natural maker and designer, she was always creating—especially clothing—which led her to UCLA, where she studied textiles. She was a proud graduate and an Alpha Chi Omega sorority sister.

Beverly later joined a civilian branch of U.S. Army and served in Germany. There, she met and married the late Dr. David Mead. Together they settled in La Jolla, California, where they raised their three children.

In 1970, the family moved to Hampden, Maine. Beverly and David both worked for the University of Maine.

Beverly was an avid reader and belonged to the same book group for over 50 years. She was an accomplished gardener, lifelong clothes designer and seamstress. She was a familiar sight to her Cobblestone Creek neighbors—out each day on her walk with Pebbles, her beloved yellow Lab, by her side. She often helped others and volunteered for numerous charities.

Beverly is survived by her children, David Mead, Melanie Mead Portland (Lance), and Ramsay Mead (Sunny). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Annie Maxwell (JJ), Matthew Portland (Jennifer), Christian Portland, Liesl Portland, Sophie Mead, Jaedan Mead, and Persia Mead; her great-grandchildren: Theodore Portland and Henry Portland. She also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews, as well as a special AFS exchange student, Kauser Knorr.

Beverly cherished many long-term friendships, including her childhood friend Martha Culbertson, and Sandra Butzel. After moving to Rochester, New York, she found wonderful new friends with great neighbors and an Alpha Chi Omega Alumni Chapter.

In her final years, Beverly was comforted by the tender care she received at Victor Views Assisted Living, and in her last days, by the compassionate, loving hands at Light Hill Comfort Care.

The family will hold a private celebration of life in the near future. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Light Hill Comfort Care: https://lighthillhome.org/

  1. That is beautiful; you captured her so well. I’m glad you mentioned her creativity, and it made me smile to see her in orange. And,of course, I am honored to be mentioned.

Even though we have only been telephone friends the last few years, I will miss her dearly. We had so much history together and comforted one another in our down times.

My heart goes out to the immediate family. Losing a life well lived is still a poignant loss. Be well.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. What a lovely tribute to a wonderfully smart, savvy, strong, funny, and kind woman and our loving aunt and great aunt to our kids. I have very fond memories of her. I loved your mom for many reasons including the funny repartee between her and her brother Gordon (our dad). I also have a very special and specific memory of her meeting Alex (our first born) at Wanda’s house when he was 3 weeks old, the golden light in the beautiful room, her warm and gentle smile, and being together. I know this is so hard, but hope warm memories rise swiftly to the top.

I have a great pic of your mom with my dad that I’d love to send to you when it feels right. Sending you much love and comfort. – Karen Moore Woon

You will be missed by all.. Nes

  4. I was so fortunate to get to know Beverly over the past several years. She was a very astute and financially savvy investor! It was hard to see her struggle as things became more difficult for her. I’m glad to know she’s at peace.

  5. Melanie and All, Your Mom was an elegant, creative person and more importantly, a great friend. We too were mostly telephone friends these last years but I have many wonderful memories from our time in Maine. Will miss knowing that I can reach her by phone. Love to you three kids!
