Onnalie E. Miller
February 9, 1939 – March 15, 2026
Pittsford, NY – On March 15, 2026, at the age of 87, Onnalie, nee Elliott, passed away peacefully in her home.
Onnalie was born in Buffalo NY to Ruth and Ralph Elliott. She attended Amherst Central High School, went on to earn a BA in fine arts from Syracuse University and later a master’s degree in education from Nazareth College.
Onnalie settled in the Rochester area where she married her husband of 46 years, Daniel C. Miller on August 17, 1963. She taught art at Cobbles School until becoming a mother and then returned later to teach math and reading in the Penfield school district.
She loved swimming, skating, sewing, sailing and took great pleasure in decorating her home and being the consummate hostess. Her love of water meant the family spent much of their recreational time enjoying all that Keuka Lake has to offer. She maintained a lifelong connection with her SU Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sisters and delighted in reunions with them. In retirement Onnalie found fulfillment volunteering at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. She also enjoyed The Women’s Council, The Cotillion Club, The Rochester Professional’s Society and her book club where she forced members to read weighty tomes about The Civil War. Above all else, she loved to be with family and even better, to travel with them. She always looked forward to the yearly Elliott girls reunion trips.
Onnalie is predeceased by her husband Daniel C. Miller and her sister Karen Klein. She is survived by her daughter Cara Flitner, Son-in-Law David Flitner, Nieces and Nephew Beth Unverferth, Amy Coburn, Robin Miller, Bruce Miller and her DFAM Theresa Oaks.
A celebration of life will be held in the Cloverwood Gathering Room, 1 Sinclair Drive in Pittsford NY, on April 24, 2026 from 1-3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
Lastly, but most importantly, the family would like to express sincere gratitude to Onnalie’s care givers Twanna Lister, Torrielle Wofford, Shannon Glover and Lynette Gallagher who have been devoted to her care for a number of years and who have consistently kept her healthy, safe and content. They have been a blessing to us. We cannot say enough.
