Rose Miner of Fairport, NY, passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 98. Born in Rochester, NY on September 27, 1926, the second of 10 children to “John” (Giovanni) and “Jenny” (Concetta) Carini. Rose lived a life devoted to her large family and numerous friends. She loved her Lord, Jesus, and showed His love to others through her compassionate giving of time, prayer and serving her famous homemade meals and desserts for family and those in need.
Rose’s home on Briggs Avenue in Fairport was the hub for large holiday gatherings, birthdays, no-excuse get-togethers, and parties of every kind. She was a master cook serving up incredible feasts from her home kitchen up until the age of 97. Rose will be remembered for her Christmas cookie platters that she lovingly created from scratch for family and friends each year consisting of generous samples of 20 or more handmade cookie varieties which she baked throughout the Advent season.
Graduating from Fairport High School in 1944 where Rose participated in many clubs, committees and sports. She remained very athletic and competitive throughout her life, participating in golf league into her late 80’s, bowling league until the age of 93, and enjoying her ladies bridge clubs into her mid-90’s. In her last day of league bowling, she rolled a 200 game in 2019. She always valued the social and friendship aspects of these activities even more than the competition itself.
On November 22, 1945, Rose married Chester Miner of Fairport shortly after his discharge from the Army following his deployment in World War II. They lived for 2 years in Milwaukee, WI, while Chet attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and then moved to Levittown, NY for 6 years before returning to Fairport for the rest of their lives.
While in Levittown, in 1949, Rose and Chet became parents with the birth of their son, John, the first of their 3 children. Daughter, Debra, and son, Thomas, were both born in Rochester in 1954, and 1958, respectively.
Rose put her culinary skills to work in Fairport’s school cafeterias so she could have the same work schedule as her school-age kids. Eventually, she went to work for BOCES, Monroe One, in Fairport where she taught Home Economics in the “Little Green House” for many years until her retirement. Chet and Rose enjoyed dancing, golfing together at Marvin’s Country Club, and playing cards with friends. Her beloved husband of 61 years passed on in 2006. Rose continued to enjoy hosting gatherings in her lovely home on Briggs Avenue, until the last year of her life. Her son, Tom and his wife, Debbie, lived next door and always looked after her, providing assistance when needed. She spent her last few months living at Heathwood Assisted Living and Memory Care in Penfield.
In addition to her husband, Rose is preceded in death by her parents John and Jenny Carini, her brothers Patrick, Louis, John and Paul Carini, and her sister Josephine Schooping. She is survived by her sisters Pauline Governale of Glens Falls, NY, Jean Powell and Mary Lou Jacobson both of Fairport, and her brother Samuel Carini of Fairport, her daughter Debra (Ralph) Gebhardt of Canandaigua, her sons Thomas (Debbie) Miner of Fairport, and John (Polly) Miner of Ithaca, NY. In addition, she is survived by 7 grandchildren, Nathan Miner of Ithaca, Christen (Kevin) Kelley of Rochester, Rebecca (Diamond) Cookson of Alexandria, VA, Shelley (Jeremy) Friel of Albany, Brian (Kimberly) Gebhardt of Rochester, Thomas (Reana) Miner, and Chelsea (David) Crist both of Fairport and by 13 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and a funeral will be Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with both events at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY.
