Newland, Jeffery M.

Fairport: Jeffrey M. Newland, 49, of Fairport, NY, died suddenly on October 21, 2013. Born in Batavia, Jeff attended Fairport HS, served 3 years in the 82nd Airborne Division and graduated from Genesee Community College, Geneseo College, and Albany Law School.

During his career of dedicated service to his community Jeff was a Co-Resident Manager of The Ronald McDonald House, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, President of Rochester Mentor initiatives, and Director of The Boomer Mentor initiative through the Rochester Community Foundation and Lifespan. Most recently, he launched his consulting practice, Best 2 Things, mentoring local business people in achieving meaningful goals in their career. This business community extended its reach through Best4Good to connect talented business leaders with charitable organizations. He was also personally dedicated to programs such as Compeer, Veterans Outreach, Project Transformation, and a local fatherhood initiative.

Jeffrey is survived by; his beloved wife, Lori Moore Newland, and treasured sons Cooper and Ryder Newland of Fairpon, NY; his father Donald Smith and stepmother Jeanne Smith of Leroy; second father, Joseph Newland of Dansville; and mother Virginia Hetrick Buckley of Webster. He also leaves behind; his brother, Eric Smith; his sister, Catherine Buckley Carbone (Rich); and nieces, Morgan and Taylor Carbone. His other siblings include: Kimberly Buckley Sutton (David); Jackie Buckley
Zucker (Brian); and Matthew Buckley. Jeffrey’s family extended to include his brothers from the 82nd Airborne and many dear friends.

Jeff will be remembered for the joy and purpose that he brought to so many in his life. He was a mentor and guide in the greater Rochester Community and a loving, devoted husband and father. He lived his life with heartfelt gratitude and reverence.

Calling hours will be held at Keenan Funeral Home on Route 31 in Egypt, NY, on Tuesday, October 29th from 12 noon to 2pm and 7 pm to 9pm, and Wednesday October 30th from 4pm to 7pm.

A funeral service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to the Jeffrey M. Newland Memorial Foundation at Rochester Area Community Foundation. This foundation supports mentorship programs, families navigating trauma and loss, and fatherhood programs.
