Jim was born on June 12, 1942 to Walter and Eleanor Oppelt in Rochester, New York. Having lived in Greece, NY and Rush, NY, his current residence was Victor, NY. He passed away at his seasonal home in North Fort Myers, Florida on September 16, 2022 following a lengthy illness. He is predeceased by his parents, daughter Cheryl Ann Barbieri, who undoubtedly was waiting with arms wide open at heaven’s gate, and by brother Peter. He is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Carey) of 57 years, two sons: Chris (Lisa) of Brockport and Douglas (Tricia) of Boston, son-in-law Tony Barbieri of Mendon, 8 beloved grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Oppelt, a niece and nephew and many other family members and friends.
Jim served in the National Guard. He retired from Eastman Kodak Co in 1991 after 27 years of service and retired a second time from Optimation Technology in Rush NY. Jim’s passion was hockey and watching his sons and grandsons play from tots to young adults. Family (immediate and extended) was very important to him. His summers were spent at Honeoye Lake where he enjoyed all the summertime sports along with family and friend time.
Calling Hours will be at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport NY 14450 on Saturday, September 24, 10am-12N. Immediately following the calling Hours a service will be held at the Funeral Home. It may also be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIU1l1MAG6QE6pPX1DHdT9w
Interment will be held at a later date at White Haven Memorial Park.

Rosemarie and family . . A few poor words will not suffice to express the sadness we feel over the the passing of your beloved husband and father. Please accept our condolences and be assured that Jim will always be a welcomed member of our memories.

We just found out about Jim. Our sympathy to the whole family. He wss Rods best man in our wedding. We loved him like a family member. My brother who was just a little kid would wait for Jim to come down the street in his “wee wee” car, Volkswagen. RIP our dear friend. ❤
