Marilyn Lois (Smith) Orr died peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2021 at the age of 88.

She is survived by her daughter Christine and her husband Richard Christopher, son James and his wife Pamela Orr, and son Robert as well as grandchildren Kim Pohlig, Jennifer Spacher, Jason Clementi, Emily Macchiano, Jeffrey Clementi, Zoe Christopher, her niece and dearest friend Linda Searchfield and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Born to parents Edgar and Anna Smith on December 30, 1932, Marilyn was a life-long resident of the Rochester area.  She graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School, attended Potsdam State where she studied her first love — music — and settled in Fairport, NY to raise her family. She began a career working an entry-level job at the former Itek Graphic Solutions Co., but worked to her way to the Executive level and became the company’s first female Vice-President. Following her time at Itek, she joined the Health Association and volunteered at Mt Hope Cemetery providing tours and presenting local history.

Marilyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Macedon and served her church as  the organist and Minister of Music for many years. In her later years, volunteered for Lifespan by appearing in multiple videos to help raise awareness of elder abuse.

Those who knew Marilyn will remember her fondly for her wit, charm and generosity…she is, and will continue to be, missed.  The family would like to thank the staff of The Northfield for their caring and kindness over the years.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday December 4 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Macedon.

Anyone chosing to do so, is invited to remember Marilyn with a gift to Lifespan of Greater Rochester or Lollypop Farms.

Dearest family: Having recently lost Dad Rice on Oct. 13, we know all to well your sorrow. Please know that although we share the overwhelming depth of their earthly departure, it brings such joy to know they are indeed in each other’s blessed and heavenly company.
