Merton James Petrie, “Mert”, passed away Saturday October 21st, 2023 at age 76.
Mert graduated from Gouverneur high school and served the USMC in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as an E5 Sergeant. He went on to work at Xerox for 40 years and just celebrated 40 years of marriage this year with his wife Carolyn Petrie. He was a little league coach for several years, a supportive dad to his children Mitchell Petrie (Webster, Ny) and Julie Petrie (Austin, Tx), a loyal friend to many and an avid traveler. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League, MacDougall Sportsmens Club and the Outlet Rod and Gun Club. Mert is survived by sisters Bethany Boisclair and Patsy Petrie, brother Pete Petrie, sisters-in-law Tammy Petrie, Pamela Thomas and Gayl Galen, brothers-in-law Ed Brooks and Rick Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his mother Elizabeth and father Van, brothers Leslie and Vernon, sisters Roxanne, Shirley and Verah, brothers-in-law Kenneth Galen, Ed Boisclair and Joseph Larue.
Mert’s service of remembrance is going to be at 9am on Saturday, November 4th at White Haven Memorial Park 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 (In the All Seasons Chapel)
Followed by a celebration of life reception at the Outlet Rod & Gun Club 3202 Atlantic Ave, Penfield, NY 14526
And as much as we love flowers, we ask that if you feel compelled to show your love for Mert that you do so by making a donation to your favorite charity, the Marine Corps Veterans, or any military/veterans charity of your choosing.
