1929-2026

Betty Mae Price (née Kindle), a devoted educator and the matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Known affectionately as “Betty Mae” and “GB” (Grandma Betty), she leaves behind a legacy of independence, strength, and extraordinary generosity.

Born on December 21, 1929, in Kewanee, Illinois, to the late Elsie and Fred Kindle, Betty pursued a lifelong passion for learning. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and later completed her Master of Science at Iona College. Her professional life was defined by her dedication to the classroom, where she served as both an elementary school teacher and a computer teacher, guiding generations of students with sharp intellect and devotion.

Beyond her career, Betty was a woman of many talents and deep commitments. She was a formidable bridge player, achieving the prestigious rank of Bridge Life Master, a milestone of which she was incredibly proud. She also once served as the director of a local bridge association club. Her faith was central to her life, and she remained active in her church for many years. To those who knew her, Betty was defined by her strong will and her immense heart. This was perhaps most evident in her selfless nature, as she stepped in to help raise four of her nephews (Don, Frank, Bob, Dick).

A true lover of a good cup of coffee and the company of her family, Betty’s presence was a grounding force for those she loved. She was rarely seen without a newspaper in hand and took great pleasure in keeping her mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Jim Price, and his wife, Sindi; her daughter, Ann Muscosky, and her husband, Ron; and her granddaughters, Veronica Joslin (Tim) and Patricia Dougher (Mitch). She was the proud great-grandmother of Vera Joslin. She also leaves behind her faithful feline companion, Precious. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Fred Kindle, and her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bob Niemi; and her former husband, William Price.
