Fairport: March 7, 2017. Survived by her children, Karen (Brian) Flanagan, Christopher (Julie) Reed, Andrew (Kathy) Reed and Kyle Reed; former daughter-in-law, Kristen Ryan Reed; grandchildren, Tyler, Shea, Hannah, Maureen, Madi and Caroline.
Our beautiful, sweet and strong mother was born in Perth, Scotland to Margaret Wilson MacGillivray and William Lewis MacGillivray. While Mom and her family lived in London during WWII, they survived the Blitz when an adjoining apartment building was leveled by a bomb. For safety, they relocated to Nottingham where Mom attended school within Sherwood Forest.
The family immigrated to New Jersey on the Queen Mary where Mom’s gift of singing led her to membership in the Eight Sharps singing group and a solo on the record they produced while she was in high school. Mom declined a full scholarship to the Eastman School of Music for Voice so that she could work at CBS News in NYC as a secretary in order to help fund our father’s college education. After being a stay at home mom and following our parents’ divorce, she went back to Bryant & Stratton to refresh her secretarial skills and re-enter the work force. She retired most recently from the Fairport Central School District.
Calling hours, Friday 5-8 at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt location), 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport. Funeral Service, Saturday 9 AM at White Haven Memorial Park Creation Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Egypt Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
