Forever with the Lord in all His glory!
I am privileged to have known and admired Elsie through my tenure at NAMI Rochester. She was a strong, determined woman who founded the local affiliate in 1981. I have many fond memories of her over the years when we were located at the Reformation Lutheran Church. I will forever be grateful for her leadership, guidance, wisdom and passion to help families living with mental illness.
Elsie will always remain a special person for me as we reached out to young adult mental health services together in our community. She was a strong advocate and educator for so many of us including professionals and family members since 1980 and before.
When Elsie came up with an idea, look out! Things were never half-baked. She had already, starting with prayer, decided on a plan that met a serious need. Empowered with the Holy Spirit via her faith, she’d round up disciples if they responded with an “Ahh-Haa” and a smile. The result: somebody or somebodies, would be blessed. An angel with boots on the ground. Thanks be to God for our Elsie.
I am glad to see the NAMI community recognizing Elsie. For those of us who knew her in the ’80s and beyond, she was a teacher, advocate and inspiration. My condolences to her family and thank you for sharing her with us. Elsie, you changed so many lives with your work, empathy, and compassion. May you rest in peace.
