Anita Mendoza Sabio, February 01, 1927 – January 26, 2026, was born and raised in Marikina, Philippines before she migrated to the US in the late 90’s. She passed away at 98 years of age, 6 days before her 99th birthday.
Anita studied and earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, Philippines and landed her first job as a licensed pharmacist for Abbott Laboratories in the Philippines, head of Quality Control Department for 25 years. She met her future husband at work who was also a pharmacist, got married and created a family of 6 after which she and her husband ventured outside the laboratory industry and became business entrepreneurs, establishing chains of drugstores along the way. Anita was a hardworking career woman, a business woman, a nurturing wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
Anita was the youngest and the only girl in a family of 5 siblings. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Nahum Sabio, son Andro and is survived by her sons, Dr. Norman Abbott Sabio, Nicholas Sabio and daughter Nanette Persaud, daughters-in-law, Dr. Maria Cristina Sabio, Ana Sabio and son-in law, Dr. Dan Persaud. Her grandkids Dr. Jason Sabio, Jasmine, Dr. Joel , Dr. Jessie, Austin, Nikko, Tricia, Jeremy, Camille, Alex, Jett and great grandkids, Alaina and Phoenix.
Mama Anita, as friends and acquaintances fondly call her and ‘Lola’ to her grandkids, was an epitome of an independent, liberated, energetic woman always on the go, ready to try anything. She was way advanced to some women in her time and to colleagues of her generation. She was a smart, sensible person, receptive to changes, observant, very business minded, open to reasonings, mindful, humble and unimaginably bashful. She was a very private person but warmly greeted everyone with her sincere smile. Anita lived a joyful life, filled with exciting moments and travels, always surrounded by family. She was a very active person, exercising daily on the rowing machine, recumbent bike, treadmill and weightlifting for up to a month until she got sick. She even finished a 5k Turkey Trot run at 86. Anita carried herself well and was always dressed for the occasion.
Anita lived a fulfilling life, transforming the lives of those around her for the better. The impact she made on her children and grandchildren’s lives reflects on their character and has fostered an ambition that will forever be felt. She will truly be missed, but her presence will live on in our lives forever.
Calling Hours Sunday February 8, 2026 12-2PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2PM.

We will never forget those days when we chat over the phone that lasted more than an hour to exchange news of how each member of the family was doing, wished everyone’s successes, recalled our joyous days with our relatiives, listened to your stories about how life changed when we moved out of Marikina and migrated to US,how we laughed at funny stories about your grandchildren when they were very young, but most of sll your just one and only visit to our house in Missouri, where you commented that it was very short, but full of fun, laughter, and memories drawn by wha you said “lukso ng dugo” as we are closel related by blood. We will miss your phone calls, your kindness, and your love. May you rest in peace, Ninang. Our mass offering for the repose of your soul on March 18th, here in our parish may not be enough to reciprocate your goodness. We include you in our daily prayers. We’re sad rhat you’re no longer with us, but so happy that you now rest comfortably and peacefully with our Lord. —-Bonnie, Pining,Bryan, and Jo Ann
