Grant Sackel passed away on July 15th, 2024 at the age of 67. He was a true fighter but sadly lost his battle to Cancer. Grant was the beloved husband to Barbara. Their journey together lasted 50 beautiful years! He was father to Chris and Marie (Rich) Mannara and grandfather to Christrian, Justin, Mason, Logan, Chace & Elyse. He is also survived by his loving sister Sharon Ladue and many neices and nephews. He loved and adored his best friend Jay Bergin, who stood by him to the very end. He so loved his family and friends and his true happiness came from them.

Grant served in the army and was very proud that his son Chris and son in law Rich also chose to serve his country. He wore his hat proudly everwhere he went.

Grant was a privat pilot who loved to fly a Cessna 172. Many family vacations were taken with him piloting the plane.

Grant’s biggest attribute was his humanity.  He was a Big Brother to a boy in need but then took the whole family of 7 under his wing. Grant established a soup kitchen for a town in need and even took over the mortgage payments for a father recovering from Cancer. He was always looking to help others in need.

Grant was a software engineer for Johnson & Johnson. After he retired he became a volunteer driver for Catholic Charities. He shuttled children to see parents they were separated from. With the children in distress he stocked the car full of toys and books. He would sing with them, play games and listen to their sorrows. He loved those chilren with all his heart.

It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye. Goodbye my husband whom I’ve loved almost my entire life. You made me laugh until my cheeks hurt and were my shoulder to cry on. You have made a difference in your lifetime by sharing your essence with so many people.

God speed dear husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Calling Hours Monday July 22, 2024 4-6PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport. A Funeral Service will immediately follow.

I was so sad to hear of Grant’s passing. I worked with Grant at Kodak and Johnson & Johnson. Never have I met a more kind, caring, helpful individual. He was absolutely the best boss I have ever had. He was so easy to talk to and he made everyone on the team feel welcomed and important. I always enjoyed the team competitions that he organized (of course my favorite was bowling).

My condolences to his family – may you treasure the memories of your wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Grant.

I am completely lost for words. Grant and I worked together at Kodak and at J&J for many years. He was a super person and a terrific software engineer and supervisor. Everyone loved him. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and was truly an all around gr8 person, engineer and American.

This is some of the saddest news I have heard in a while. My heart goes out to the family and all of his dearest friends. The world truly lost a wonderful person.

I wish I could be with you all for his service but I can only be there in spirit.

Working for you at Johnson and Johnson for many years was a great privilege.
To say you were a great boss and leader is an understatement.

Not many people know this, but the Big Brother to a boy in need, was my brother. A lot of my siblings and I were in foster care growing up, and Mr. Sackel was a Big brother to one of them. After moving back home with our Mother, Grant continued to help out with our family.

He did a lot for me growing up and was the first person to ever give me a chance. I can’t thank him or Mrs. Sackel enough for everything they did for me and my family.

I work with Grant’s son, Chris and was very sorry to hear of Grant’s battle with cancer coming to an end. If Chris’s positive characters traits as a man, like integrity, attention to detail and intelligence are any indication of his Dad’s then Grant was also an extraordinary man.

When reading the brief obituary above, I also get a sense of the giving and caring person Grant was. And, I bet it was so much fun for Chris and their family to take family vacations when Dad flew them around in a censna!! What a cool guy he must have been.

Rest in Eternal Peace, Mr. Sackel and sincerest condolenses to the extended Family!

Grant and I played soccer and basketball in our school years together. I’ve never met someone as competitive as Grant. His disposition in sports was intense but a kinder soul would always prevail in the end, win or lose. I always thought he had springs in his legs, that boy could jump! Although we separated after high school, I was always hoping he would show up at one of our reunions but it was not to be. I will always have a spot for Grant in my heart, rest in peace my friend.

I worked with Grant at Kodak and JNJ. He was always patient and ready to help, but after reading this, I realize I only knew a small part of this wonderful man. So many lives changed because of him, and the love he shared.

Grant and I were boys together in the village of Hilton. We did a lot of things together. We even joined the army at the same time. He was so strong. He used to take me down. Sit on me make me understand. I couldn’t get the best of him, but he was a great friend, he was at my house all the time we played soccer basketball baseball everything all sports together. I’m sorry I lost contact with him through the years, but I always Think highly of him rest in peace, Grant I love you

When I look back at my life and the people who helped shaped who I am today Grant is at the top of my list.
I was fortunate to have worked for Grant at Kodak and Johnson and Johnson. His guidance, mentoring and kindness had a profound effect on me, both at work and in life. He gave me, and so many others, opportunities, and chances to be the best version of ourselves. Grant actually made work fun. I am who I am because of his positive influence. To quote several others, he truly was the best boss I have ever had, and it was an honor.
While not a man of many words, he led by example and one directive, The Golden Rule.
Grant , you will be missed.

Dear Barbara, family, friends, colleagues, and all of us who grieve for the loss of Grant, our lives have been inextricably linked by his impact. He shepherded many with home he had direct contact. And he indirectly protected and enriched the lives of a countless many whom he never knew or were aware of his selfless contributions in diagnostics and screening. He was fearless, resilient, and my friend for 40 years. His legacy will endure.

    Go rest high, Grant.

I am sorry to hear of Grant’s passing. He was only a little brother to Pat, Jim, Sharon when I knew him. Jim was a classmate, friend of mine at Hilton HS, who played horse shooting baskets at my house all through our school years! I am sorry that I never got to know Grant when he grew up into the man, husband, father that I knew he would grow up to be. after reading all of these comments, I only wish I had known him through all of these years that have gone by so swiftly!

Rest in Peace Grant, one day we will meet again!

Barb and family, I am very sad to hear of Grant’s passing. I worked on some of the same projects that Grant did at Kodak, but I got to know Barb as my ceramics teacher and friend We found that we also had a connection through our children. Grant was a wonderful person and I am very sad to hear today about his passing.
I did not know of about all of the wonderful ways that he helped people
