Theresa Schenk (Mierzwa) passed away peacefully on July 27, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born on March 11, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Alexander and Jennie Mackiewicz. In 1950, Terry married Joseph Mierzwa and they had three sons whom they raised in Cleveland until Joe’s career brought them to Fairport in 1966. After Joe’s death in 1971, Terry decided to remain in New York to raise her young family and found comfort and support from their Fairport community. Terry was an avid cook and enjoyed hosting big family dinners every Sunday. She loved the outdoors; camping trips, gardening, and relaxing on her back porch. Her leisure time was spent playing card games with her grandchildren, building jigsaw puzzles, and playing Bingo with her friends at the VFW. Terry also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, and sewing for her family. During her time working at a sewing factory in Cleveland she had the honor of sewing commemorative aprons for the wives of the 1948 World Series Champion Cleveland Indians.

Terry was predeceased by her parents, brother Alex Mackiewicz, her husbands Joseph and Ward, stepdaughter Linda Schenk, and her beloved grandson Teddy Mierzwa.

She is survived by her children, Joe (Sue) Mierzwa of Newark, DE, Mike (Mindy) Mierzwa of Fairport, NY, and Paul (Sue) Mierzwa of Palmyra, NY, and stepchildren Brian Schenk, Randi (Bob) Green, Kevin Schenk, and David (Karen) Schenk. We have so many fond memories of Aunt Terry. It was so very nice to spend time with her during her summer visits to Delaware. Whenever and wherever we got together, we had a great time sharing stories of days gone by and making new memories. I have been making her “lazy pierogi casserole” for over 20 years. She always had great recipes and a smile and hug to share. Prayers for our Mierzwa cousins during this difficult time.

I worked at the Fairport Schools with Terry years ago. She was an amazing woman and a wonderful manager. She taught me a lot and always had a great smile. May she rest in peace.
