James Schofield III, age 75, of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2025. Born to James and Rose (Nati) Schofield on July 8, 1950 in Buffalo, NY, Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years Patricia McCarthy, children Jennifer Campbell (Barry), Timothy (Tomas), Matthew (Mandy), and Dan (Darcy), grandchildren Abigail, Carter, Jocelyn, and Amelia, siblings Rosemary Krug (Ron), Barbara Gebauer (Gerry), Robert Schofield (Cindy), Joan Hopkins (Brett) and brother-in-law David McCarthy.

James, or Jimmy to his friends, grew up in Cheektowaga, NY. He found his stride as a young man he played varsity basketball for Maryvale High School . After high school, Jim got his Associates Degree as an optician and worked for 45 years in the Rochester/Perinton area. He was drafted partway through his education, but was able to continue his training by making eyeglasses for other soldiers in the Army Reserves. Eventually he started the business that would last until his retirement – Perinton Vision Care. He loved the relationships that formed through his shop, customer and employee alike, and prided himself on ensuring a personal experience for any who walked through his doors.

Jim was a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. Cheers and enthusiasm inevitably turned to heartbreak season after season, but he was optimistic about the Bills’ chances in the ‘25-26 season. He also thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon of golf; he was a member for many years at Clifton Springs Country Club and even once achieved a hole-in-one there in 2009. A lifelong tinkerer, Jim’s other hobbies frequently featured small, easily lost components: model trains, remote control vehicles of every variety, paintball, pellet guns, and slot cars.

A lover of comedy and general merriment, he was always quick with a joke. Friends and family fondly remember that wherever he went, laughter soon followed. Despite his numerous health challenges later in life, his optimism never wavered. He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories, and he will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
