Carmen Joseph Scoppa was born April 9, 1926, and he entered eternal life on May 5, 2022. He was predeceased by his father Patsy Joseph Scoppa, known as JoJo, by his mother Elizabeth Rita Scoppa known as Boccio, by his brother Lawrence Richard Scoppa known as Uncle Richie or Uncle Larry, by his brother-in-law Eugene Wood, by his wife of 67 years Lucille Marie Millard Scoppa, by his son, Patrick Allen Scoppa and by his daughter Karen Lee Scoppa.
Carmen graduated from Brockport High School. In his senior year he was able to leave school early and work at the Quaker Maid Plant as a mechanical apprentice in the afternoons. He started College at Brockport, but he left to join the Army during WWII. He trained in the US and was sent to the European Theater with the 209th Field Artillery Head Quarters Battery. Carmen met his wife Lucille after the war; she was a WWII Veteran of the Coast Guard. They both used their GI loans to buy the “Gordon House” on Main St. in Brockport. Carmen and his father changed the single-family house to house not only his family, but also both his parents and in-laws, his brother and 51 college girls.
Carmen held many jobs including school bus driver, ice route delivery man, gas station owner, door to door salesman, factory worker at the Delco Plant and other plants, night watchman at the College, D&C rural route paper deliverer and other jobs. He graduated from the College at Brockport and began teaching in 1958 at Hilton Central Schools. He enjoyed a long tenure as teacher and principal until his retirement in 1981.
After his son, Chip, graduated Hilton High School left for college, Carmen rekindled his love of flying. He and his wife Lucille started CAR-LU Enterprises; they bought and sold airplanes in North Myrtle Beach, SC. They also ran an ice cream shop for a short time in Little River. They moved back to New York State and lived in Burdett, NY, where they “landed” on a private airport and enjoyed a nice long “flight” time. When Lucille became ill and needed support, they moved closer to Rochester. A lake house at Sodus was purchased after the airport house was sold. Lucille entered eternal life on January 1st 2015; and Carmen lost his earthly touch with her after more than 67 years of marriage. After one more cold winter, Carmen decided to move closer to family in Fairport; he found a house he liked and was happy there for a few years. After a fall and some medical issues, he entered assisted living. COVID-19 caused much upheaval in the world and held him “prisoner” for longer than he wanted. During this period, Carmen had another fall and was hospitalized; he celebrated his 96th birthday while he was in comfort care at the hospital. He transferred to hospice where he was supported by his family during his stay.
Carmen leaves Carmen “Chip” Joseph Scoppa II (Susan), his grandchildren Jean Waldmiller (Brian), Anne Marie Scoppa and Carmen “Jerry” Gerard Scoppa (Christine), his great-grandchildren Kate Waldmiller, Sarah Waldmiller, Lucas Carmen Scoppa, Claire Waldmiller, Trevor Joseph Scoppa, and Carolyn Waldmiller. His sister Delores Wood is now the Matriarch of the family. Carmen also has nieces, nephews, grandnieces, a grandnephew, and several cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at The Church of the Resurrection, 63 Mason Rd. Fairport, NY 14450 at 1:00 pm Friday the 17th of June in the Year of Our Lord 2022. A light reception will follow in Emmaus Hall at the church.
Carmen and Lucille will be laid to rest together in a companion urn as he requested and in an above ground niche as Lucille requested at a Cemetery for Veterans when arrangements can be made.

My sincere sympathy to Chip and family. Mr Scoppa was
my sixth grade teacher in Hilton and I will always remember the wonderful
man and teacher he was. Thanks for the memories and God Bless all..
I want to express my sympathy to Chip and all the Scoppa family who were like my second family growing up on Brook Street.. I truly respect Mr Scoppa for all he did for all of us throughout his lifetime. He was one of those men we will honor as the “Greatest zGeneration”.
Dear Chip and Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss. My heart goes out to each of you. After reading this wonderful tribute, I can tell that he was an exceptional person who did a tremendous amount of good in this world and performed many acts of kindness throughout his amazing life. I can only imagine how proud you feel to have been blessed by having such a wonderful parent (parents) to look up to. Please know you are in my thoughts and hope that, in time, you will be able to move past your grief and remember your dad only with beautiful, wonderful happy memories. With my most sincere condolences. God Bless, Darla Greene (worked with Chip at Terphane in Bloomfield).
Chip, I have known your family for years. I was a good friend of your paternal grandma and grandpa, and your Mom as well. I taught at the Village School under your Dad. May his soul rest in the peace of the Lord. Delores, you also have my sincere sympathy.
