Francis S. Shanders, 91, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Fran was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Gloria; his parents, Agnes and Anthony Shanders; his brother, Anthony “Tico”; and his sister, Julia.

He is survived by his sister, Veronica (Joseph); his six children, Ernie (Barb), Bernie (Beth), Gloria (Vince), Patti (Dan), Vicki, and Steve (Ann); his ten grandchildren, Nikki, Brittany (Nate), Katie (Joe), Trevor, Jacob, Jordan (Chris), Angie, Billy, Brett, and Carly; and his six great-grandchildren, Mason, Jackson, Parker, Vinny, Alana, and Lucas.

Fran loved gardening, the New York Yankees, getting his steps in, the Polkas, Abbott’s Frozen Custard (especially chocolate almond), puzzles, golf, and most of all, spending time with his family.

He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War and was an active member of the American Legion in Penfield.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY 14450.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Avenue, Fairport, NY 14450. Refreshments will be provided at the church following the Mass for all who wish to attend.

Forever together, Fran will be laid to rest beside his loving wife in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion, Braman Post #1229, P.O. Box 4, Penfield, NY 14526.

  2. I will truly miss going to lunch with my friend Fran. He always had a smile and positive words. My wife Stephanie and I will both carry fond memories of him. Fran, we will see each other again. 🙏. You were a good man.
