Don was a terrific man. I had the pleasure of meeting Don several years ago through the Assumption Home Repair Ministry. Made a few small repairs at his home. He was always so appreciative. We had some very nice conversations too. His excursions to Hegedorn’s for goodies. Enjoyed seeing and shaking his hand at the early Assumption Sunday mass. People like Don Shannon are few, the world has lost a great human being. But heaven has gained an Angel.
My father Al Skinner and I are very sorry to learn of Dons passing. Dad still talks fondly of his younger days hanging with his friends Don, Jerry Joyce, Paul Kilmer and Ray Doran and has a picture of the five of them hanging on his wall.
I am sorry to hear of Donald’s passing. Donald was my mother’s cousin (Mary Shannon). I always enjoyed hearing Donald reminiscing about my mom and her eight siblings. Donald had the blue sparkling eyes that reminded me of my grandfather,Tom Shannon. Donald was a true “gentle “ man. You have my sympathy and prayers.
Some of our best memories were when we lived in Rochester. I speak for all of us – Jack, Mark and Anne. I remember being at the house with a whole bunch of kids. My father, John Stevenson, was a good friend of Mr. Shannon’s. I never saw my father have a relationship with anyone like that after we left Rochester. I personally had some difficulties, but memories of your family were some of the good times that I looked back on. It is interesting how positive relationships and those memories can outlast the bad times. All I can think of is the four of them – Mr. Shannon, my dad, Mr. Veto and Mr. Lorenz.
