James C. Sharps, 59, of Fairport, NY, passed away suddenly at his home on September 13, 2021. Jim is survived by Laura, his loving wife of 25 years and his devoted son Matthew, 21, a senior at the University of Buffalo.
Calling Hours will be held on September 25, 2021 from 11am-1PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport.
Jim was born on September 6, 1962 in Rochester, NY to James D. and Elizabeth D. Sharps. He is a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School and Monroe Community College.
Jim really left a mark in whatever room he entered and was always unapologetically himself. He has a sarcastic sense of humor and was always quick with a witty remark. He loved a good confrontation which could make him seem intimidating, but he was honestly a gentle soul. We always described him as a hard and crunchy on the outside, but soft and mushy on the inside.
Jim showed this gentle side through his fierce loyalty to his family and devotion to his beloved Bills and Yankees. He loved watching all sporting events, especially with Matthew. When he watched great sports moments or inspirational human-interest stories, he expressed his joy through shedding a tear or two- as moments like these tugged on his heartstrings.
Jim also had the uncanny ability to make everyone feel comfortable and loved, and this was one of his greatest strengths. We often joked that his stubbornness was one of the things we loved most about him, but also one of the things that drove us craziest. We will not only miss all his good qualities, but also his imperfections and flaws, like leaving his socks all over the house and always spilling something on his shirt when he ate!
Jim does leave a legacy of love with his family and friends. He may be in heaven now, but we know that he’s looking over us as our Guardian Angel. Rest in peace, dear Jim, and know our hearts will be yours for always and forever.

I’m so sorry for your loss Matt and Mrs.Sharp. I always loved when we played CYO games and your dad always sat behind us and made jokes about the other team. I’m sorry I can’t attend, I’m still currently cross country. I’m so sorry for your loss and wish I could be there.
My heartfelt condolences to the entire Sharps family. I’ve been a lifelong friend of Jim’s having met him working at Star Market in the early 80’s.
Jim was a great guy and I will see you all on Saturday to pay my respects.
So sorry for your loss. Jim was a fun guy and I know that he will be deeply missed. Best wishes to the family during this difficult time.
Thinking of you as you navigate this difficult time Laura and Matt. Although my interactions with Jim were brief, he was nothing but kind, welcoming, and left you with a smile on your face. I hope the vast number of happy and special memories will bring you peace as you carry on in the days ahead.
Laura & Matthew, we have been neighbors for over 20 years and always enjoyed having Matthew at our home, rec center, or when running errands. Jim was very social & always walked over to visit when we were outside or would encourage us to stop when walking by. We know this is a difficult time & will be here if you need us. Sending hugs & prayers to you both. RIP Jim.
Sending our heartfelt condolences on the pass of Jim and your Dad, Matthew. It’s been a while since we saw you (since we moved in 2012 from Fairport). But, this was a shock to see his passing and I can only imagine what you are going through. Have faith in the Lord that he had a special place for Jim and he will watch over you and Matthew. Please take care and John says he sorry to Matthew since they were friends when we lived there!
