Shearer, Robert Irwin

Robert Irwin Shearer left this world unexpectedly on September 30 just steps away from the home where he grew up. He was born to Charles and Melva (Polson) Shearer of Pierrepont Manor on May 8, 1946. Losing his father at a tender age, he was fiercely protective of his mother and older sister Sandra. He graduated from Henderson High School, continuing his studies at Jefferson Community College and later graduated from Union College in Kentucky. In 1969, he served his country in Vietnam in the First Air Cavalry where he earned three Purple Hearts and the Silver Star, but kept them quietly tucked away in deference to his fallen comrades. His love for the environment brought him to a two-decade career with the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation from where he retired. Not content to sit idle in retirement, he became a real estate agent with Hunt Realty which allowed him to do what he did best, talk to people and help them find their joy. He is survived by his daughters, Leah (Patrick) Noonan of Yonkers and Mary (Karl) Sieburg of Pittsford, wife Sally Shearer of Pittsford, two granddaughters, Rachel and Allison Sieburg, and sister Sandra Shearer of Brighton. He is also survived by his longtime companion Jeanne-Marie Beirne of Mexico Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Samfund or Veterans for Peace, as Bob would have wanted it that way.

Calling Hours Thursday October 6, 2022 4-6PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport where a service will immediately follow. He will be buried at Military Cemetery on Friday, October 7th at 11am. Military Cemetery is located on Spencer Dr, in Sackets Harbor, NY. (Rybelsus)

Masks are requested due to vulnerable family members.

So very sorry for your loss. Although I met Bob only the last few years, I saw him as one of the kindest people I have ever met. We had a lot in common besides real estate as I was with a town and he was with the DEC…..Rest in Peace Bob.

Thank you for the tribute to a beautiful man with daughters, one of whom I know. Thank you for showing me the joy in your father’s eyes while spending a weekend with you at a young adult survivor retreat. I most certainly saw it.

So sorry for your loss. Even though we never met Bob in person he became part of our family. My son and I received many emails, texts and letters from Bob over the years and they all meant so much to us. We feel his loss deeply but we know who was there to greet him. Rest in peace Bob, you will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Kevin and I are so sorry for your loss Leah, Mary, and the entire family. The death of a parent is one of the most difficult and challenging a child could endure. Leah did a fantastic job on portraying her father as an amazing man. To which he was.. Our hearts go out to all of you. Sending . Love., Jennifer

I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing, I worked with Bob at Hunt Real estate and we had many discussions, regarding the environment, his cottage and his next move to Florida and doing some sailing. He was a great guy and will be missed.

Bob was a good friend and a special person. We meet at Hunt and shared so many conversations about work and life. We covered for each other when either of us were on vacation and once listed a dig kennel together. I can’t believe that his is gone. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends.

Having known Jeanne Marie and Bob together for the last 15 years I was lucky enough to spend some time with him and get to know him. He was always interested in talking to people, had great stories and quick with a joke. I believe he was truly interested in learning about others and hearing their stories as well. Always happy and positive, he had a generous spirit. He loved people!! I do not know most of those he held near and dear to his heart but extend my condolences to all who loved him. Jeanne Marie is my friend and my heart breaks for her as his loss will forever change her life.

I worked with Bob at the start of both of our careers with the DEC. I used to keep a pair of scruffy old wingtips at my desk to wear in the office. One morning I sat at my desk to put them on and they were spit shined and I mean SPIT SHINED. And there was Bob with one of the biggest grins I have ever seen. Leah and Mary, may you find peace in your memories of your father.

I knew Bob in high school and college. We were part of young people who summered in Henderson Harbor at the GE dock for swimming and boating. One September, going back to college in southeastern Kentucky, my car was broken down and he and John Sullivan made room in his 1964 Ford Falcon convertible (Hot Car) to go back to school. He always went to the college reunions at Broadalbin when we had young families. He will be missed.

Bob was a kind and loving man. I feel blessed to have known him for the past 15 years. He and Jeanne Marie enjoyed their lives together to the fullest, sharing winters in Florida and summers in New York. He was a proud father and grandpa, sharing loving stories about his daughters and grandchildren. I will miss his easy laugh and gentle spirit. My deepest sympathy to Jeanne Marie and his family.

I wish to give my sincere condolences to the Shearer family. I was stunned to hear of Bob’s passing and the accident that caused it. I served with Bob 52 years ago in Vietnam & Cambodia. We were with the B Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), Custer’s old unit. Though we did not serve in the same platoon his men have only said good things about Bob. When Bob visited Central Florida, he would stop by and we would have lunch and a few beers and talk about old war stories. He told me about the story his daughter wrote about him and he was so proud of what she wrote. He also would tell me of how he would take care of his sister. We went to a 1st Cavalry Division Reunion together a few years ago and it was fun attending with Bob. As we would say in the 7th Cavalry “Gary Owen Bob !” We will miss you brother. With regrets Joe Persaud

I remember Bob coming to my house on Northgate.. We attended the Bonnie’s home games and put our winners in for March Madness.. it We went for coffee a lot and it was near my work. I worked for the county and he worked for the state . That made for lively conversations.I am sorry to hear of his unexpected death and I know his family was of great importance to him. He found joy talking about them.. We also talked about his Vietnam days. They were met with extreme anguish. So much so that we went to Highland Park to see the memorial. I just have memories now yet he won’t be forgotten.
